Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello fellow USS De Wert moms
My son is being flown out to the ship this Friday. It seems there is no phone communication only email or snailmail. To be expected, would I be correct? Should my son have Verizon suspend his service while he is out at sea? When are they returning so I can look to see if we can be there to greet him. Sorry so man y questions.

My son calls me off and on using pre paid phone cards. He chose not to suspend his phone service. I chat with him daily via fb private message. e-mail works also. Is this your son's first deployment? It is my son's first. We aren't supposed to talk about specific dates like a return date electronically because of OPSEC. What is your son's rate?

Yes his (our) 1st also. He is an EN. I totally understand about not talking on specifics, do you know how we would find out their return date or should I wait for a letter from my Sailor? I would love to be there when it returns whenever that will be. We can fb private message them too?, That's good to know. What is your Sailors rate? Thank you.

It is our first deployment also. My son has been with the ship since July 2012. He is an IT. I am not sure how they will let you know about the return date. The ships Ombudsman should be able to let you know more. If you aren't on facebook, you should start one. The ship has a page and they update with pictures and stuff all the time. The Ombudsman also posts regular updates for the families. There is also a family readiness group (FRG) that updates and plans stuff. I sent you a friend request on here. If you can't find these things on fb, I will pm you my name and you can friend me and I will help you get to the proper pages.
