OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hi Linda, KatK turned me onto the Google alerts. If I remember correctly:

Search for 'google alerts' and it will bring up the site on which you sign up for google to screen for the USS Fitzgerald (be sure to include DDG 62 or you will get stuff on the Edmond Fitzgerald and everything else)! LOL

You can ask them to send 'alerts' to your email and specify how often to send the alert, like daily or weekly. I made a different email account in case something didn't look right, I could dump it. So far no problems with the alerts they have sent along. All that the stuff that they send is already published, so no 'loose lips'. Good luck.

Hi all! Just checking in. Wanted to let our new moms know: sign up for Google Alerts for the Fitz. Each day Google searches for links mentioning the Fitz and forwards the links. There are articles, pictures and links to other sites. Just one more source as we search for news from our sailors. I am always careful to look at the source before I open the links, trying to avoid computer problems.
