Happy Memorial Day!  May we never forget the brave and courageous military men and women who fought for our freedom.  Thank you, to all the sons and daughters who continue to serve our country and their families who lovingly support them.

I wonder If putting the candy in a jar would help if it's chocolate candy

My post office told me that if the military boxes aren't available, you can use the large size flat rate boxes (they are free) and they will charge you the military rate.  I have done this since it can be hard to find the military boxes.  Stuff as much as possible in them! :)  I sent Reeses Pieces in a plastic bag shaped like a carrot for Easter - he said it exploded and they were all over everything in the box - he still ate them. LOL

Get priority mail boxes because you can mail up to 70 lbs for the normal cost of each box. Boxes go anywhere from $10-14.95 and will get to Japan within 6-10 days. Depends on where the ship is as to when a package gets to it.

May want to use ziplock for candy....jars can break and they are heavyier and will cost more. You dont want glass shards all over everything and in a ziplock it can fit in around other items. Best to send the flat rate boxes if you can, its cheaper. He most likely will not get his package until they get back in approx 3 wks. My sons bday is 20th...and he will not receive his package then... but will get it when they pull in. They do receive mail while out..but its few and far between. I am worried about my son... he has seemed down lately.

Hey eehhhilieshhhaa!

Get a free box at the Post Office. The large size costs just over $10 to send. You have to fill a form for customs listing a general description of what's in the box... 'snacks, clothes, toys'. I sent chocolate for Easter and it arrived without melting, so send it; the jar may be hard to store . I send stuff that might leak or melt in a zip-sealed baggie so it doesn't get on the rest of the package contents and the baggie is easy to store in their small spaces and then it's easy to throw away the baggie. Check the Post Office web site: there is a list of what not to send. I have let the Postal Clerk tape some of my packages but prefer to tape all the sides so I bring my wide, clear tape with me now. The Postal Clerks are tired of seeing me, they keep reminding me that I can complete the entire transaction on line, from getting the free boxes delivered to my home to scheduling the mail person to pick up the filled box at my home. LOL

Your sailor is a lucky guy!

Let me know how long it takes for your package to reach him.

yay so I received all the stuff I ordered online to get sent to my sailor. I just need to know the attentional stuff I can send are allowed like I was thinking of buying him bite size candies; butterfingers, snickers, etc. and put it in a jar? is that allowed. and if there's a certain size box I have to put it in as well as do I tape the box shut when I arrived at the post office or how does it work?
