Hi Britt, my husband was E3 when he came here and we got married here. He is an E4 now. Does that help?

Looking forward to welcoming Britt and Luvinmatt to Guam!

Hi All, I am new to this site and we will be coming to Guam in about 6 weeks. Hubby will be stationed on the Cable.

Hi Shannon- wow, the compression socks were great! My mom got me medium strength knee highs (they have others that go all the way up) and I thought I would need stronger cuz I am such sweller. I waited to put them on during the layover to Japan. It had a fresh tingly effect! When I wasn't walking on the plane, I moved my ankles in circles or straightened my legs into the aisle a bit. I got an aisle seat so I could get up and down without annoying people. Then I would walk as far as I could in every direction (sort of in a big circle) on the plane. You will see others do it too. While waiting for the restroom I would go up and down on my tippie toes.

Yes Mona! It looks like they really take a lot of time to prepare those up-do's -just to walk around on the streets of Guam. And those bright rubber crocs to top it off. Have you seen them? I just cannot get into that style of dress. Different strokes I guess! :) It is one of those things that will make my first memories of Guam stand out in my mind I think.

Hi Joeena! Yes, I just asked my husband and he knows your son by your last name! How cool is that? He met Mona's son too.

@Shannon- Chamoru night is fun as Mona says. A great place to get some food and souvineers. DH got his favorite shorts for $4 and I got a necklace and to tiny surfer bracelets for $7 total. You will notice crowds of Japanese population at such events. They are generally very wealthy, but work hard to style themselves like "peasants"in loose layered prairie dresses over tees and then some extravagant big bright hair ornament, lol! I giggle to my husband that peasants in Prada are approaching!

Shannon- Congrats on your first grandchild! My best advice for the flight is to focus on leg circulation! when i flew to spain i had the worst "cankles" when I got there! the flight to guam was much longer. walk a lot before and during the flight; I also wore compression socks and drank water at every opportunity. i hardly had any swelling when i got to guam! bring a good book and a headset to plug into your seat or a listening device. i had an overly chatty neighbor on the way here- the headphones helped me tune her out! i love Guam so far! I just married my sailor here in January and we will finally move into our house on base next week! Have a safe trip and enjoy the time with family!

On my drive back from visiting DH for lunch I saw the large emergency billboard the Navy had erected at the base entrance now says "TSUNAMI WARNING CANCELED". :)
