Ohh I forgot to update. After I got the few texts yesterday we had a skype date after he watch. yay for that.  He skyped with the kids this morning. Now everyone in the house is a happy camper. yay! The wifi on board is garbage. If you have trouble with skype try tinychat. The creat a room button is all the way down at the bottom. That seemed to work better for us. I have emails coming through to now. 3 so far. They are pretty old from the 22 and 23.

Oh- and a email just came through too. Don't know if that means it is up or not, but I will take it. I was surprised because on the call he sounded like it might be a few days before they get it going again. But maybe he was talking about something else? I hope that's a good sign for all of us and you all will hear from your guys very soon.

DH got a sim card finally and we had a bit of a garbled call! He sounds fine. We did not talk as long as we usually do. :(  But it was good to hear his voice. I think he explained that as it stands now they should still be home in the same time frame even if they take off a day or two later (not to give away anything sensitive). But yeah it was hard to understand. He said he will call again.

@Kristy I am so sorry your son does not stay in contact. My husband is the same way. If it were not for me his parents would never know anything. I try to keep them updated with what is going on in our lives because he wont do it.  He probably enjoys himself more than you think. There are tons of things to do for the people sans kidlets. I would have loved to come here before kids. Do you have his ship email address try his last name then first initial @as40.navy.mil    It is down right now but for the future.

Hi Kristy- I am sorry for your frustration. That is exactly why we are here for you. There can be so many reasons for the poor communication but it does happen with some sailors. As far as liking it here- I find the people who don't like it, don't get out and see the island. Maybe there is a transportation issue or fear- but it holds people back. I invited some friends to a parade the other day- and got a knee -jerk "no" response at first because of their limited negative perception of the locals and a lack of appreciation for the history here. Make sure he knows you are there for him-  write plenty of letters to keep him going-but don't expect them all back- and be a positive/ upbeat/encouraging as you can. Depending on his dept./ division it can be a challenge to find and befriend sailors that are a positive influence. I find some of the singles are either painfully shy or not socially integrated with different types of people or the opposite- just about partying. Takes some sifting to find some trustworthy friends in which you have something in common. When you do hear from him next make sure he get's an assigned email to give you if he hasn't gotten it already. He is allowed to use it to write to you on the ship and vice versa. I don't know why but facebook is a form of approved communication - not sure if he has access on deployment, but at least here when on duty he can and if he has a computer at home. Does he have a laptop? If not there are phones that he can get email on. They are pricier here- but mine kinda "keeps me company"- its GTA service and the reception been great and I am just about always on the GTA internet when not using laptop at home (MCV internet/ cable service at home- couldn't use my brand of phone with MCV). Have y'all skyped before?

I got the undeliverable email message too...

Wi fi is definitely working. He is texting now. I guess they told them not to take their phones unless they were ok with getting pick pocketed. Very annoying.

I figured I would update you ladies. I still have not heard from my husband. He is on on watch but I am talking to the girl from his shop and she said it looks like the wi fi on the pier is working! yay yay!  She is relaying messages to him for me so I expect a call or skype as soon as he gets done with work stuff.

just got an email saying my email at least one of them went undelivered. So the internet must be really really broken. I have never gotten anything like that before.

I have still not talked to mine yet. I am hoping she will hurry up with the sim card. But I cant be like hey hurry up because she is doing me a favor. Ack! Did you hear they are supposed to have internet down at the pier? I am trying not to be mad because he is on duty. I wish he had called me last night like he was supposed to and there would be no problem.  The whole internet thing frustrates me to no end. I wish DH was a LAN guy so he could fix it with the quickness. I bet the LAN guys are getting poo pooed on because they suck at their jobs lol.  Ugh all I want to do is talk to my stinking husband.
