OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Ships Address: (this is for Sailors attached to the ship, squadrons have different addresses). You must know the Department and Division your Sailor is assigned to ensure mail finds its way to him or her.

Here is the specific link the USPS Priority Mail APO/FPO Flat Rate Boxes, choose a pack of 10 or 25 boxes and they will deliver them right to your house. The APO/FPO boxes are the large size so you'll have to order the regular priority mail boxes if you want medium or small. Also linked the needed customs forms that you can order at the same time. ALL ARE FREE. You can then use Click and Ship to ship it at a discount and you can even schedule the post office to pick the package up from your house.

My sailor was deployed on the Bush, last year, and she is no longer serving, after 5 long years (for me, due to missing her, AND being on edge, with each deployment). She is now attending college. F.y.I., some of her training via the Navy earned her, or transferred over to college credits, which I was very pleased about.

In regards to your daughter potentially attending college, using her G.I. Bill, I believe she will not get her "payment" t owards her tuition EXACTLY on time to meet the colleges scheduling for it to be due, but, as colleges deal with G.I. bills, I believe a college would work around any small discrepancy in your daughter, or her college, receiving the tuition funding a bit off from their own deadlines-- as my daughter's college did.

The housing funding is not received by the vet until they begin their first day of college, I believe, or somewhere near when college starts. It could be somewhere near $25,000/year, for say, a Petty Officer, 2nd Class.

Then there's the lump sum upon getting out of the service, that my daughter received, which she paid off her student loan from her first year in college, from just before she entered the Navy. The rest, only her Dad is in control of, as an "oops fund" (my ex has been pretty good with financial planning with both our daughters). Just to give you some ideas.

Comment by Dad of Sailor on July 10, 2015 at 1:33pm: Do you know what program she was talking about? I don't know what she would be looking at in Cape May, New Jersey.

She needs to get signed up immediately for the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) Class that is offered on base in Norfolk. That needs to be her immediate priority over any work she is assigned or what else they have her doing. It is a week long class and covers all the topics she'll need to transition out of the military.

Has she sought legal counsel from the legal office to ensure she's exhausted all options? She should be entitled to separation pay for being involuntary separated. She also needs to be evaluated by the VA for any service related medical issues.

Make sure she has EVERY medical issue documented on her separation physical as she needs proof she was dealing with it while in the service.

We all hope you stay on the page and keep in touch. We're interested to hear what the next chapter of her life brings.

Does she have the Post 911 GI Bill? If so you need to encourage her to go to college and use that money to get her degree. She earned it. If she doesn't have it she needs to get signed up for it and use it.
