Thanks. I didn't know that you couldn't send liquids. I never have, but that's good to know before I did send some. I guess if he needs some I will send the purex sheets.

DebS, your sailor is probably just busy. Don't worry.

Maryellen, I didn't list it either. If we don't send them their favorites they won't have it. The last box I sent I wrapped it in towels and washcloths, mainly because he forgot them. lol.

Been almost a week and no email either ..  :(

Maryellen, I sent my husband little boxes of yoo-hoos the last underway, but they were sealed and wrapped up in plastic.

Boxermom, when they go underway they say it seems like no one puts toilet paper in the bathroom every week, so the guys try to rack up on it... I sent my husband a big roll because that is something you don't want to be without.

Navywifey2010, they steal everything on ships and it makes no sense to me. I would NOT want to wear someone elses underwear, even after they wash them. My husbands cousin got all of his underwear stolen on an underwear and he was only left with the pair he was wearing, so he bought some from the ship store and had his parents send him lots more.

Ipon1987, it was to my understanding that they arent allowed to have their own meds on the ship... My husband doesn't have alot of patience either and he has already started to vent. lol

Hi Ladies - HOME SWEET HOME!!!!  This place has sure picked up, and I am so happy to see all the love and support!

I'm also glad that you are discussing the theft issue -- I was so reluctant at first to mention it (way back several weeks ago).  For those of you who are familiar with my posts, you know how much I love the Navy and Sailors.  That said, I want to throw this out there as the reason I think the Command turns a blind eye (and this goes for many situations your Sailors will confront -- not just theft).

Addressing the issue of theft is an acknowledgment of a very ugly problem -- addressing it also draws unfavorable attention to the ship and command, and reflects poorly on the overall image of the individual ship, chain of command, and the entire Navy.  If the command really, really digs into this problem, it would become a full time job, and then what? They are all stuck together, on deployment, with shipmates who are known liars and thieves.  I don't know about you guys, but I would have a really hard time maintaining my professionalism under those circumstances, and I work for a law firm where the stress is minimal compared to what our Sailors deal with every minute of every day.

This, of course, is just my opinion, but it is one based on personal observation/experience. And, again, before anyone jumps on me, please remember that I am an experienced military mom who is intensely loyal to all of our military.  But, it is what it is, and the truth will always remain the truth.

P.S.  And it isn't just the Navy.

Hey everyone! I have been MIA for awhile. We had an extremely busy week and even busier weekend. So we managed to survive the first weekend!!! I took my kids to see the Langely air show. My son loved the "o-planes and hello-doctors." He made sure everyone knew his daddy was on a ship (so glad he can say it right now and the p in ship is no longer a t lol) and let them all know daddy makes the o-planes go off his ship. He is one proud 3 year old.

I was reading through the comments about things being stolen. And while I do feel really bad that it has happened it does not surprise me. My hubbys first week on the ship he didn't know much about how people were and left his rack unlocked while he brushed his teeth and someone went into his wallet and stole his money. Luckily it was only $20, but it was his last $20 until payday. They also stole his brand new phone while he was sleeping. He thought it would be safe because it was charging and he hid it under his pillow and had his hand on the cord, but they managed to get it away. He hasn't made the mistake of leaving ANYTHING out. He said sailors in his berthing steal dirty underwear out of peoples laundry bags when they leave them on their racks, a friend had the cords to his xbox stolen, another had his brand new iPhone stolen, all kinds of stuff goes missing daily. And I think that is why the higher ups don't do much about trying to get it back. They would need to add a Loss Prevention rate to the Navy because it is an hourly occurrence on the Bush.

As for using ships laundry to wash your stuff, I wouldn't recommend it because my hubby has said things go missing out of there too. Either the people doing the laundry keep it or it ends up in a different sailors laundry no one really knows. But my hubby says no way in heck he'll do that. He has 2 trusted friends that he pays in Monster energy drinks or candy bars and they will do his laundry for him IF he can't get away from work to do it himself. Since one guy is about 40 pounds like and the other is about 7 inches and 50lbs bigger and he doesn't have to worry about them stealing his stuff. lol.

Also I saw one mom say she won't send liquid soap in the mail... is  there a reason? My amazing couponing friend just got me 2 bottles of purex for .97 each and that usually what my hubby will use on the ship but I know the bottle he has wont last so I was thinking of sending him a bottle when he needed it. Is there a reason not to send it? Cause if so I will just save it til he gets back and he can use it on the ship during underways and what not.
