@Karen - Welcome!  :)

Hi Ladies! Just checking in quickly before I have to get to work.  Sending you all a big squishy hug this morning - I know it's rough for many of you right now.

@Cindy & NavyMom - congratulations on the new graduates!

TTYL - :)

ooops....where's my good southern manners?....Hello Ms. Karen : )
Comment by Connie(Memphis Belle) on May 9, 2011 at 11:26pm

holy cow....i had no idea things could change so quickly MIMI!!!

and navy-wifey yes thank you and any information on when they return will be greatly appreciated.  this TAD i had heard about...but never even imagined it "might" be some thing that could affect my Sailor...he'll be disappointed not being able to join the Bush....but there again it's not his or any other Sailor's call to make...it's all in the Navy's hands. wow i still have a LOT to learn!!!

Comment by navy-wifey2010 on May 9, 2011 at 7:06pm

Connie - it is a good possibility that he will be flown on to the ship since there will still be plenty of time left on the cruise. And if not he will likely go TAD on another deploying ship while the Bush is in the yards that way he can get all his qualifications.

MIMI - Unfortunately that happens a lot in the Navy. My hubby had a friend that had orders for Shore Duty (something EVERYONE wants after being on the Bush) and his orders ended up being messed up a week for he was supposed to PCS and he got put on a ship that was deploying a month later. It's just something we learn to expect, but prays never happens to us.

Comment by Annie on May 9, 2011 at 7:04pm

@MIMI - this happened to Derrick twice.  The first time, he ended up being flown to the ship.  The second time he didn't.  It ain't over til ... oh well you know the rest.  He could very well still be going with them.

Comment by navy-wifey2010 on May 9, 2011 at 7:01pm

Connie - I am not sure how the capt plans on letting us know the return date. This is a new capt and the crew has only been on one underway with him. I did notice he was good about informing us of any changes and he is great about squashing rumors. If I hear anything I will try to let you  know without breaking OPSEC rules.

When the return there is usually a huge party on the pier. The man the rails and regardless of pull in time families are out their screaming and having a good time. I personally wont mind if it them leaving is not all over the news. Saying goodbye at the pier the night before will be hard enough for me and our kids.

Same here MIMI...sorry you're going through this.....but on a good note (I guess) he won't be deployed.....at least it sounds that way......and I've learned, quickly, we have no control when it comes to the military!!
Comment by Annie on May 9, 2011 at 6:27pm

@MIMI - I don't know.  I am so sorry he (and you) are going thru this. Hopefully, he will get it worked out tomorrow.

FYI though - this "stuff" happens all the time -- You just have to learn to go with it, as best you can.  It can get you down for sure - especially because I think most of us enjoy feeling like we have some control over our lives.

Comment by Connie(Memphis Belle) on May 9, 2011 at 4:54pm

Cindy-keep me posted on the "return" and you being there....i am hoping and praying that the new doctor can get Sissy straightened out to where we can travel with her....otherwise planning on Dad being there for sure!!!

well that is if he is sent out to join the Bush....what are y'alls thoughts on this?  he finishes C school 9-14.  we've been told to "count on it" that he will be sent out.

Comment by Connie(Memphis Belle) on May 9, 2011 at 4:48pm

thanks mommas-he really loved the skulls : / my "headbanger Sailor" hehehehe

what i meant about "televised" is stock footage that news outlets have broadcast....i don't recall seeing one recently or any ship identified...sort of like a generic clip of a ship. there's all kinds of clips on YouTube. i did a search "manning the rails" and a lot popped up.  although it would be super super cool if it was televised...the ones that the deployment is common knowledge.
