@Connie - Derrick told us when he was being flown to meet his ship in the Persian Gulf. We were able to see him off at the airport.
As far as him staying in, no. He is ready to finish his education and move on. I don't think he will have any regrets, maybe, but I don't think so.
Hi all! :)
I too am appalled at the thought of one sailor stealing from another. Since this is my daughter's first duty station and deployment I'll be sure to tell her to make sure she locks up her belongings and about the renter's insurance.
Does anybody out there have a sailor that is an IC on the Bush? My daughter went to C-school for IFLOLS so I'm guessing they're a separate division of ICs?
I get so confused by all of the T.L.A.s! (BTW - I use that term for all the abbreviations & acronyms....not just the Three Letter ones.)
@Mimi - yes it's a huge problem. No kidding, Derrick's whites were stolen once shortly after he got there. He had to buy new ones. Who does that?! ME has seen him, he is a big guy -- I can't imagine that many others would fit into his clothes.
I think the best recourse is to (1) lock the stuff up, and (2) get renter's insurance from USAA (or wherever - that's just the one I know of), which covers their belongings against theft while at sea.
Love the pix duhhuh58!
Mimi-got it!! and thanks for taking a crack at it!!! and many thanks for all the tips. my Sailor will be (or at least we've been told) he will meet the Bush in Sept....hmmm...will he be able to tell us where that will be when he knows?
theft onboard....now that can get this southern momma's bitches in a wad real quick!!! where's my wooden spoon???
and yes Annie-debriefing....Mimi that was priceless!!! so Annie...is there any real chance he might re-up? gosh you are my first momma that has one leaving...well at the end of his contract "leaving".
Oh thank you SO much ME! Very nice of you to pass that along!
Hi Connie - Clear as mud is right!
Derrick has finished his 4-year tour with the Navy - or at least he will be next week, so he won't be leaving with them. He may change his mind and re-up though if he sees my last post LOL ..
All kidding aside, he went in needing to grow up and is coming out an adult. We are very proud of him. I am not kidding when I tell you guys that you will look back when it's over and not believe how fast the time passed, even if it doesn't feel that way right at this moment.
Annie-a roadtrip with your Sailor and you can "pick" his brain!! woo hoo!! but now i am confused...since he won't be deploying with the Bush i am assuming he got new orders?
and oh yeah that explanation of shore duty/shore command....clear as mud!!!
@Sharon @ Cindy - Happy Mother's Day to you guys too! (and everyone else)
@Connie - and this is direct from Derrick a min. ago - Shore Command is WHERE it is - Shore Duty is WHAT it is. Like that means something to me ... LOL ... does it to you?
So, he had shore duty w/ the MA ofc when he was in between the USS Cleveland and the USS Bush. I think I got it now ... LOL .. or maybe not ... He can splain it to me in the car on the way from OK to CA next week (I'm flying there to meet him halfway - we'll visit w/ some family and then drive home together). He'll have at least 2 SOLID DAYS with his mother .. in the car .. alone .. I plan to ask him every question I've been holding back for four years!!!
