Annie....I just pin them together and then sew them with the overcast stitch/foot...no basting...it ziz zags and straight stiches all in one......with little or no fray trimming.....I'm new to this too.....don't be embarrassed....I haven't got that many done myself.......today I sewed most of the day.....I only have 15 done, 3 more cut and ready to sew.....but I'm still shooting for 50...at least 10 of the 50 are from my sister in law...I wish I could do more and will do what I can to do more but we all have restrictions on our time..ie work, etc. You're doing great with what you are doing so don't be embarrassed.....keep up the good work!!!

Well, I still need to hand baste everything so I will wait to try it out after I finish the pillowcases.  I'm so embarassed that it is such slow going for me, but I figured out early into it that I would have to sacrifice quantity for quality.  I had to just stop looking at how many some of the ladies are getting done.  I'm just glad they are though - if it were up to just me, this would be a heartfelt, but p-i-t-i-f-u-l showing of support! :P

NO it's really easy to use, you just feed the material against the foot and whala...not much trimming to do afterwards....there still are a few strings that have to be trimmed but nothing like my old machine!!! The overcast sews the pillowcase....no presewing necessary, just pin it and sew with the overcast foot, check it out in the manual

Hi CeeCee - I got one for Christmas that I am just learning how to use.  Thank goodness for the angels who work the Brother helpline!!!  I saw that overcast foot/trimmer, but was afraid to try it.  (Keeping in mind that I am a beginner - so don't laugh!!) Do you overcast/trim after you sew the pillowcase together? Is it hard to use?
Comment by CeeCee on March 18, 2011 at 2:21pm
It works great, and the overcast foot/stitch is a dream. I don't have to do much trimming of fray at all, saves me some time. I got a Brother, Project Runway. So far, glad I made this purchase! :-))

Thanks ME.....I'll get these done as soon as I can and then see if I can go for more!

Sewing machine took a crap, bought a new one and love it!! It has an overcast foot which cleans up the seams and I don't have to trim as much. Also, should make it faster to get my PCs done.....shooting for 50 right now for the Bush project.....has been slow going but gotta get my butt moving....Have a great night!!!

annette, i'm terribly sorry for your loss, but like you said, it's it's great to see the family bond bond within the Navy. Even parents, spouses, sisters of Ssailors look out for each other. I just want you all to know that if anyone ever needs anything, i'm a message away.

Stay positive and God Bless

Annette,

I am sorry for your loss but am glad that your son was able to come home to be with family during your loss.
