Wow , the underway was long and difficult now worried about the deployment. My sailor overall has sounded good which is a relief. Biggest problem is finding time to get his certs done so he can test in March.

Oh yes!!! Cargo leadership was horrible when my husband was there!!! I think because yet have people rotating in an out so much they just don't really care about any of them :/

Some departments/divisions are worse than others for sure. My son is fairly happy with the leadership in his normal division but he isn't so happy with his TAD division. I'm quoting him "a monkey could run this division better than these guys".

Nannette... Leadership definately leaves something to be desired... I think part of it is because the ship is so large.... There's not a lot of one on one.... Where does your son work?? Maybe you can find another mom to get her sailor to help yours out :)

Nanette, hopefully things will be different on deployment this time...its so hard to hear from our sailors when things aren't going so well. I love your Christmas spirit! I'm sure he loved the tree. Easter was a fun holiday for me...wind up chicks, even lol :)

And jas babe, you make a very good point ...when shipping care packages, keep in mind SPACE is so at a premium! I would go to the dollar store, get some silly games like paddleball for 3, a rubics cube, etc.... knowing it would be enjoyed then thrown away. Pictures, however, are flat and small! Remember the scotch tape or magnets!

Thanks, this group is wonderful helping me to understand what's going on. My boy was raised with five siblings and in scouting, he only knows cooperation in getting jobs done. I've never heard him so dejected. Sounds like leadership on this ship leaves something to be desired.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much comraderee on the ship... At least not that my husband has encountered.... He has been the low man on the totem pole for 3 years!!!! Luckily they finally got some newbies in his shop this underway so hopefully hubs can teach them and get out of being that person that does all the work!!! Good luck to your sailor Nannette and don't get too upset if he can't keep the Christmas tree... My hubs even had to throw away candy last deployment because he just didn't have room!!!

Sent a huge package of goodies and....a small decorated tree. Couldn't help myself. My boy working out of his training area and says the older sailors check in then leave, sticking him with all the work. Disappointed to find out bullying is so prevalent onboard, guess this is the time he sees who is trustworthy. Also a good lesson on how important it is to treat othets with respect.

My son was on the list to go to security shortly after he arrived and he's only an E2. They ended up picking another E3 to go but he only works in security in port and works in the shop when they are at sea. That may be different than what M is doing.

My hubs worked 16-18 hr days in cargo over last deployment!!!!! Horrible!!! Security has it's pros and cons... Ring sprayed with pepper spray or whatever they use is definately a con!! My hubs is on anyidepressants so he will never be able to do security but he has fitness who did it as e2s... Wonder why they only want e5 now that's weird??
