Hello Everybody,
My step-son Steven is on the USS Washington. I was thinking of a care package for Thanksgiving for him. Has anyone sent the pies in a jar to the ship? I know he loves pumpkin pie and wondering how the pies ship. Was also looking for other ideas to send him.
Thanks so much.

Chris

He did good Shandell, you will always remember that. My son is going to turn 19 next month. I sent out a bunch of boxes this week for him...lol I have kind of adopted two of his friends too so I think I sent 4 boxes out on Monday and then a little one the other day and then I saw this recipe on a website where you make a cake in a mason jar and then seal it and it stays good for about 3 months if need be. So I put a whole little party box together, with 6 cakes to share and frosting, candles, lighted yo yos, whistles, a fog horn, lol and some other little kid party stuff.. I thought it would be silly and fun and hopefully he will see the humor in it... He should. And it was so funny, the lighted yo yo I wanted to keep, it was like being a kid again. I hope you had a great day yesterday. Have a good weekend. I am glad you felt loved by the man of your dreams. It is a good thing to be married. My husband and I will have been married 20 years this November. The first time I could get pregnant I did with my son Kyle and now here is on the other side of the world ... wow
Have a great weekend Shandell!!

Jacob is MM-Machinist Mate. I came home today from my grandparents and there was a box of chocolates and a dozen roses on the front porch with a card from Jacob for my birthday. I was so surprised. He made me cry from halfway across the world

Shandell, we can be friends !!! I am at work right now, but just wanted to shoot you an email to let you know thanks for sharing and being open. I do understand what you are going through and their paths ( your hubby and my son ) has pretty much almost followed the same time line, just few weeks apart from each other. And he has a beloved girlfriend here at home, and we are pretty close so I understand some of your feelings from that angle as well. Kyle and Breanna have been dating for about 3.5 years already. She is currently entering her senior year of HS. Kyle was best friends with her brother and Bre was the baby of the family and was not supposed to date until she was 16 like all her other sisters. But Kyle had made quite the impression on her family and so asked her Father if he could court or date her... its history ever since. They will get married when he gets home. They have it pretty much all planned out. You need good support all around you and just hope in the future.
It's a moving and touching story of your love. I am happy that you have each other and pray that doors open up for some of the logistics to open up. What does your husband do? Kyle is an HTFA -- hull tech fire ... gotta go for now, looking forward to talking again... Bye Karen

My name is Shandel. It has been really hard being away from him. We have been best friends since 6th grade and he's always been just on the other side of the creek. We've been neighbors since before I can remember. So far, we haven't had any luck getting anything done for military ID or insurance. It's been a real big run around trying to figure out exactly what to do to get everything done. I moved back in with my parents once he left, but had moved out prior to him coming home on leave. He joined the DEP program senior year and left for boot camp in July. Whenever he left for basic, I cried for three days...I had denied how I felt about him for a long time, but once I realized that the guy who had always been literally just a phone call away, no matter what time, or what he was doing, wouldn't be there to hold me when I cried, it all kind of hit at once. I had always looked at him as my best friend and it was difficult to wrap my mind around the fact that he meant something more to me. It was an adjustment. But once I realized how I felt, there was nothing holding either one of us back. It's been an emotional roller coaster since he left...I miss him a lot, but I just try to keep busy and hope the time goes by fast. He graduated basic the 18th of September and came home for 3 days on emergency leave. His great grandmother on his mom's side passed away the day before his basic graduation. His mom got it cleared for him to come home for her funeral and we took him back the Monday following his graduation. He was in Great Lakes until the 15th of January and then came home on leave for 28 days before leaving for Japan. We spent pretty much every waking moment together at my apartment while he was home. The only time we were apart was when I went to work or he stayed with his dad for some quality shooting time. Haha. Other than that, he was at the apartment 24/7. My family and his dad are very supportive and help me in a lot of ways. Without the insurance and income from the Navy, it's been interesting trying to pay some hospital bills, but my parents have helped out a lot in that area. It's so nice to talk to someone that knows what it's like to have a loved one gone...

Hi there, My name is Karen...Miss Loves her Sailor
Wow what a brave young woman you are. I bet that has been so hard to be apart like this. How exciting that you were able to get married before he left though. That way you are entitled to everything a spouse could have access too. I mean like visiting and just if you needed to get a hold of him. Are you staying with your family right now or on your own? I live in california. My profile picture is right as he was getting ready to board the plane to leave for Japan, January 9th at like 4:30 in the morning. He got to stay an extra day though, because it had been foggy. We had gotten there the day before and there were no flights... I loved that extra time. Congratulations on your marriage...how are you doing with him being gone? Your picture of the 2 of you looks beautiful. My son joined the Dep program as a senior in HS and then a month after he graduated, he left for Boot Camp...He was only 17 and then on September 3, 2009 we, my husband, my other son, Kyle's girlfriend Breanna, myself and my mother in law went back to chicago for his PIR.... It was a week before his 18th birthday. It was amazing and awesome and amazing to be there with him. I was recovering from a big surgery though and so I was a little out of it for parts, but I wouldnt have missed it for the world. He got to come home on his way to Japan...so he came home on his brother's 16th birthday... ( my little one - jonathan in special needs and he has missed his big brother alot ) and he got to be here with us for Christmas and the new year. Did you get to spend time with your husband after school and before his departure? I sure hope that you are getting the encouragement and support you need. Do you ever desire to go over to Japan while he is there or are you just going to stay stateside? As for pictures, I can never really send any , they wont attach in the emails, but I can take a picture on my cell phone and then send it to his militay address... I think it is bittersweet for him...he loves it but then he misses home too. YES they are busy busy busy busy and more busy. I sure hope that the next port they go to he CALLS and SKYPEs you... that would be amazing for you. I ended up taking a picture of him on my cell phone while he was skyping and I just smile every time I see it... Anyways, bye for now... feel free to write back if you would like. I feel much compassion for you and I pray that mentally emotionally and physically you are doing well and that it is good with your heart. Have a great day Loves Her Sailor!!!!

I get emails pretty regularly. He takes time out of his lunch to email me most of the time and he will try to email before he goes to bed most of the time...I live in Kentucky. What about you? We've been married a little over 6 months. Be 7 months on the 6th of September. We got married a week before he left and haven't seen each other since. We try to send pics, but I don't get many from him. He's pretty busy...
