3 - 2 week scattered leave
Comment by too tall Joan on June 5, 2016 at 6:39pm
This is my sailors 2nd deployment so this is what I know

Most everyone gets 96 hours liberty when they get home. There are usually 3 a 2 weeks of leave time also and it is scattered dates. With 6000 people on the ship it is not possible for them all to get the same dates off. However my sailor has said there is rumors of leave time being cancelled because of schedules and the 30 day extension. Again this is a rumor and we should all know that things can change on a daily basis with our military.
More info will come out to us soon telling what to expect, how to get on base, etc.

Yes we can visit the ship but I can almost guarantee you that our sailors just wNt to get off and enjoy land.

B'sNukeMoM glad your enjoyed your trip, would love to go there.

I thought I read some where about a homecoming party, of course I can't find it now. Does anyone know if there is a such thing? If I remember correctly it is the day before homecoming. If I'm not dreaming this up it sounded a lot like the meet and great that Sarge hosted the day before PIR. Any information would be greatly appreciated, but at this point I'm beginning to think I dreamed it.

OK, so there is a difference between "days off" and leave?

Comment by Lorabelllee on June 5, 2016 at 1:36pm

Redsmom..I am under the impression that they get 3 or 4 days off...but those that have leave first (the first 2 weeks) I believe it starts maybe the day after the ship gets in? That is what I understand from my son..as it stands he has leave the first 2 weeks...starting the day after the ship comes in.I'm hoping to convince him to stick around for a few days as I could sure benefit from a few days on VA Beach! haha

Hope that helps!

Thanks Lorabelllee!  I'm still confused, though.  You said a few days off then you said 2 weeks.  Is it one or the other?  Both?  A few at first then a couple weeks later?  Sorry for so many questions!!

Comment by Lorabelllee on June 5, 2016 at 1:16pm

Redsmom..I have never met a ship before either but this is what I know. Yes, we get to visit and I understand that they all get a few days off (except maybe those that stand duty?) They have split leave and I believe my son said he has the first one and it's generally 2 weeks much like it was before they left on deployment. I understand it's a BIG deal and I can't wait. Someone told me to bring signs and such to welcome them home! The way I understand it is it take a LONG time to unload all those sailors...the ones with new babies go first, married ones next and single ones last. Makes sense to me...but my son is single... :-(  If anyone has any other info I would love to hear it as well. Haven't spoken or heard from my son for a week now.

Glad you had a great time in Hawaii B's Safe travels home!

You are one day closer....

Absolutely, Ann!

Having never met a ship, what happens?  Can we actually visit with our sailors?  How much time off do they usually have to visit (hours, days, a week)?  I'm sure they are given leave and not everyone gets to go at once, so any info you can safely share would be appreciated.

OPSEC Has to be observed still.  I want that aircraft carrier safely home!!
