Hello everyone I’m new to this page, I have a cousin in the navy who just got done his 2 year deployment on Monday, he’ll be heading for another deployment next month. I have a brother who will be heading out on the Truman so I’m looking for support from others with family who will be touring with him.

Lots of fun stuff happening on the Truman!  We have enjoyed the time with our Sailor, never ending hugs (and pictures)! Your Sailor should have gotten D day details by now to pass on to you. Personal message me if you would like me to fill you in.

Hi all - Happy Monday!

Jo 4 Bama - WhatsApp is a good app to use while they are deployed.  It works with both iPhone and Android.  We used this one and I'm sure there are others out there too.

https://www.whatsapp.com/

A ship to shore calling card is also good to have - they can get them at the NEX and they are reloadable.

Remember - they get quite busy and in their "free" time they have to eat, do laundry, perhaps even study.  Phone calls might not happen as often as you like but don't worry, I'm sure they'll call when they can.  My son mentioned that sometimes the lines for the phones/computers can be quite long too.  You might have better luck getting a call when they are in (or near) a port.

Jo 4 Bama,

I know your son will be leaving soon, but I wanted to let you know that on the weekends my husband and I invite sailors over to our home. We feed them and play board games with them, watch movies, etc and would like to invite your son this coming weekend. If you think he would be interested , please pass this on to him. I can pm you our cell #. Another sailor on the Truman comes over  and another this weekend. :) Check out our page on this site,

Jo 4 Bama,

Yes, you will be able to hear from him....at Port stops, and emails and FB. There are times they can use the computer and times they cannot.

Care packages- There is a group on this site for care package ideas.

Hey everyone - Happy Friday!

I know the Truman is getting ready to deploy again soon (remember NO dates are to be posted - OPSEC!).  I hope you are all ready!  My son is out of the Navy now so no deployment for us but I will be thinking of all of you and your Sailor's.

There's a discussion above from the 2015 deployment and there should still be some good info in there that can help you out.  Or maybe someone will start a new discussion (or I can start it if you like).
