My son says he has dropped 15lbs but didn't mention the biggest loser...hmm, I'm sure those prizes would get him motivated!
Anyone know if it would be a mistake to send M&Ms--his request (now how does that fit into the diet plan?)
Thanks Grace for sharing the airport story.
Will be adding powder and visine to the next package.
Thanks for all the tips!

Hi Everyone. Batteries are also good if your sailor has electronics. I also sent one of those lights that will stick up and are battery powered. You can find them at home stores. They are about 4 inches in diameter. Only about and inch and a half thick. They are good in the rack at night for reading. eGear lights are also good. They are very small and fit right on your ear and direct a beam of light. Also good for reading. You can get them on the internet. Something I learned thru the years when sending chapstick to the troops in hot places, Carmex or a lip balm with a screw on lid may be better. Chapstick gets hot and leaks out. Another thing to help with the heat issue- powder. Sounds funny but when it gets hot and guys sweat, chafing occurs and can be miserable. I would not suggest one that smells like lilac :-) but there are some male talc/powder products in the men's hygiene section. A couple of last thoughts, Visine really helps dry, tired eyes. And if you send medications, leave them in the original container. Sounds odd, but the directions are important and having pills in the correct container is beneficial during a locker inspection should it occur.

OK--2 care packages in the mail. I had enough stuff to almost fill a third box, but will wait until I have it completely full and then send it. Thanks for the reminder to send chap-stick. I wouldn't have thought of that and I am sure he could use it. I also sent along a bottle of 100 multiple vitamins and a small bottle of Advil (just in case). I really appreciate all the information and help I have received from the people in this group. You all are great. Beth in OK

Beth - busy day for you!! Sounds like a great selection of goodies, your son will be stoked... :) Mine asked for gum, too. Says he doesn't need anything else, though he appreciated the saimin I sent in my first package. Makes him homesick; he seems to like that.. I asked if it isn't too hot to eat soup and he says "I don't care how hot it is, I'll still eat saimin.." More saimin coming. And gatorade sticks, protein snack bars, newspaper with articles of interest, car/fitness magazines, etc. etc. Next package - movies, CD's.

Hi all---I heard from my son yesterday too, and he basically said the same thing your sons have told you: working long hours, can't tell me where they are or what he is doing (job wise--but he can't talk about what he does anyway). Says he met a girl he likes, but told me not to get all excited about marriage or grandkids!!! He says he works with her, so will just remain friends. We'll see how that goes!!! Finally told me he would like a care package of food and a couple of books he wants to read. Asked me to send gum. He said they don't sell gum on the ship. When I went to the store over the weekend I purchased a bunch of snacks I thought he would like--dried fruit (apricots, pineapple. apple, raisins) microwave popcorn, Pringles, Cheese crackers, box of Crunch N Munch, large can of mixed nuts, fruit bars, grain bars, Skittles, little tins of mints, beef jerky, Lipton Tea to Go (little packages of flavored tea mix you just add to water). I also got Q-Tips, body wash, deodorant, biodegradable TP, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and a box of Purex 3 in 1 that someone mentioned here. I also bought a refill package of the Purex that I will send next time. So I will go pick up the gum and the books today and run by the post office and get the customs paperwork and the box to mail all this in, get everything packed up and run the package back up to the post office this afternoon and get it on it's way. This will be his first care package--I know, I'm late--but I would like to thank you all for the suggestions and mailing information you have posted here. I am thankful I have found this group--so much support and information.
Wishing you all a good day. I better get going so I can get this package on it's way...........Beth in OK

Same here. Computer is always hot, cell phone at its highest volume, and tissues in my pocket. Yeah, I'm a softy when it comes to my #1 girl :-)

They provide them with camelbacks on the ship. There's always a huge supply. But you can always send them one. They come in handy in that fierce heat, and you usually walk around with it all day. We used to put drink mix in ours sometimes, fruit punch and other mix. But we learned the hard way cause it dehydrated us. So we stuck to water after that lol. Hope everyone gets to speak to their Sailor, whether it's e-mail or a phone call. God Bless
