Hi everyone. I am new here and so glad to have found this group. I wish I would have found it a couple of years ago. After boot camp my son spent a year in Monteray, CA then this last year he lived in Augusta GA. My son is a CRT on the Truman. I have talked on the phone with him several times and have mailed letters--which as of now he has only received one--and sent lots of emails. I have asked him what he would like me to send in care packages, but he just says he doesn't need anything. But, I want to send stuff anyway!!! Would someone please be so kind as to tell me what is usually sent, and what a mili-kit is, and how to order it? Thank you so much.

robin, i don't know if i heard it on here or where but apparently they got a big shipment of mail a few days ago i imagine they are probably still sorting though it...i don't know how long it take them to process it and get it out to our sailors...my husband has been getting stuff for the past few days that i have sent at different times. I sent my package on the 3rd and he got it yesterday...

Wooohoo!! My son received his package today! It took a month... perhaps because I live in Hawaii, takes longer? He was stoked. Aaand - Wooohoo!! -he called me yesterday! We lost the connection twice (the Hawaii thing again??); all in all had about a minute's talk time; still was so good to hear his voice :) He is doing well. My next package is coming together - thanks for the many tips you've posted here. Blessings to all of you and a good night.

Yeah! He finally got the package from us! He says its getting hot so I'm glad he got the shampoo and deodorant..
Thanks sunfire for the USPS tip. I used the flat rate box filled and shipped for 12.50.
I'm going to get the mili-kit next.
Thanks for sharing JordansMom. My heart goes out to your re: the wedding...

That's why you don't put names on here. It's all OPSEC. When a person uses google they're getting the basic info that you can get anywhere. All we have to do is keep it simple and to the point. Simplicity is torture for the enemy.

The U.S. Postal Service introduced a Military Care Kit, or "Mili-kit" in 2004 to make it easier for military families and friends to send care packages to their loved ones stationed overseas. Since the inception of the Military Care Kit, the U.S. Postal Service has shipped more than 150,000 kits. Each kit contains two Priority Mail boxes, six Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes, eight Priority Mail labels, one roll of Priority Mail tape and eight customs forms with envelopes.

This kit may be ordered by calling the USPS Expedited Package Supply Center at 1-800-610-8734. There is no charge for the kit. The Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes included in the kit can be shipped to any APO/FPO in the world, regardless of weight, for $8.10.
