Hi Karen, ... et du fils.. yes, too funny! While deployment is not at all fun and games I kinda wish I could be there with them. I live vicariously through my son. Ugh.

Becky you'll appreciate this - from a navy.mil news story on interoperability operations with the French Navy aboard Truman: "...U.S. and French service members were quick to point out the similarities between how the two navies operate, including using the same color-coding scheme to distinguish roles on the flight deck. The only difference in the flight deck jersey color scheme between the two navies is the significance of the color purple; for the U.S. Navy the color indicates the refueling team, for the French, it signifies the presence of the priest. 'We were surprised when we saw so many purple shirts on the flight deck,' said Mahe. .."

AlwaysReady - thanks, didn't know about youtube and hulu; we were watching it on Netflix 'instantwatch'. My son was the one who told me about it, he knew I would enjoy it.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. My wife also sends her blessings from the ship for all you do. She's busy all day & night working in Legal. Such a small office for over 6,000 personnel. I enjoy any e-mail I receive, I know it's hectic.

skype is a free video calling service that as long as there is internet connection you can talk whenever with a web cam. All you have to do is download skype and create an account and add whomever you would like to be your contacts and place a call. I have done it in the states not overseas anywhere so i don't know how the quality will be...but it def. helps. and as far as just the calling it costs money if it is done thought the internet to a landline but if it is computer to computer or any other device connected to the internet it is free (hope that made sense)

I just want to introduce myself. I'm not a Navy Mom or Wife, I'm actually a Navy Husband. I joined this site because it has the most knowledge on current events & there's basically no site for Navy Husbands lol. I'm a Navy Veteran myself & my Mother was a part of this site when I was active duty. Now I'm here in support of my Wife whom I met while on our ship in 2007. She's now an LN3 on the Truman & works in the Legal Dept. She just checked in right before deployment. I'm also here to provide any help with the knowledge I've gained from serving. It's great to see a support group for all the Sailors/Marines onboard the Truman. You are truly great individuals. God Bless You All

Thanks, Becky, I'll look for the History Channel one - would love to learn more. I thoroughly enjoyed the "flightdeck ballet" part on Carrier, impressive to see so many parts come together so well!

Hi Sue and everyone, I'm new, too! My son Dominic is on his first deployment aboard the Truman. Glad to have found this site, thanks for answering so many questions I had myself! Has anyone here seen the PBS documentary "Carrier"? Follows the USS Nimitz on their 2005 deployment. Great look at life on a carrier.
Again, thanks for being here, it's great to be able to connect this way!
