OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

I wish I could be in Norfolk with my husband... Today was the hardest day of my life so far. This is his first Det and our first time away from each other since we got married... I am praying for everyone salior on the ship, I hope everyone stays safe and comes home healthy and happy. I have don't know what to expect, but I guess I will roll with the punches. I hope the time goes by fast for all of us, my prayers are with everyone who has a son, daughter, husband, or wife aboard. Pray for 6, wish for 7, hope for 8, and be happy when you get 9 instead of 12!

is there any way to buy "Navy Cash" gift cards to send to our sailors? Trying to come up with birthday presents for the sailor who says he wants or needs nothing. Any and all suggestions welcome! Thanks

OK, there is something I have never understood. We are lectured about Operational Security (OPSEC), we have all read the rules. Never post or discuss the movements of the troops or the ships... but then you look at the news and by golly, there it is. The Truman and company are leaving Norfolk on Friday. How come OPSEC doesn't apply to the Naval Public Affairs Office but it applies to us?

QuiltLady- If you PM your sailor's division on the ship I can give you the box number. My husband works in the post office on the ship.

My husband is on the ship and yes, am concerned for his safety along with everyone elses but I don't think its necessary for everyone to jump in and down someone's throat (especially the newbies) when they ask questions that can't be answered due to OPSEC. I think once is enough.

Does anyone know if our sailors can get passports any faster because they are sailors? How long does it take? My son is now in the process of applying for his. I wish someone would of advised him to do this say.... after bootcamp so he would have been prepared.

jde- I went to the ship the other day to drop off some books I wanted to donate to the United Through Reading program and I believe the place that we took them to was a small library of some sort so I want to say yes but I'm not sure.
