There is a website where you can buy cards and have them sent to your loved one on the ship. https://shop.aafes.com/scs/default.aspx. You may have to copy and paste this to the web browser. Once you get that page up, click where it says "Purchase a prepaid card." Look for the cards that says "AT&T Ship-to-Shore Prepaid Phone Cards" ONLY. This is real important. You can order 1 card or sets of 10,25,50,100 or 250 cards. The price of each set gets pricey as you go up. Once you know which one you want, click on the "Purchase now" underneath the card(its in blue). This should bring up a page where you can enter your Sailor's mailing address on the ship. It HAS to be the address on the ship so make sure you and your Sailor verify their address. Once you do that then click "Continue" and I'm sure from there it will ask for your payment option. Hope this helps and if you have any more questions please feel free to ask!

Ladies, my husband is on the ship and we have already been through 1 deployment. From experience I know that there will be times when your loved ones will be able to use the payphones on the ship whether in port or not. My husband got to call numerous times, sometimes 3-4 times a week, even when they weren't in port. Don' t think that the only time you will hear from them is when they are in port. Same with the email as well. HOWEVER, there will be times when you may not even hear from them at all for 1-2 weeks at a time but this doesn't happen too often. Phone cards go fast on the ship so make sure to let your sailors know to get them when they can. If not, they will have to wait on the next shipment of mail which can take days to get to them. Hope this helps everyone!

To Madonna/Joe'sMOM- my husband works in the post office on the ship and he wanted me to let you know that if your son hasn't received his package yet that its not the ship post office...its the USPS. I myself have sent something out to someone on another ship about 2 months ago and they never got the package either. Hopefully your son will get it soon!

Hi Pat L D- I'm new to the group but my husband is on the Truman. I asked about the glasses and he said your son should go to medical on the ship and ask for an eye exam and from there he should be able to get them. Hope this helps!

I haven't been on here in quite some time, so I just want to make a short comment here by way of introduction. I'm a retired Navy chaplain. Yvonne and I have a "home away from home" for servicemen and women in our home on weekends. On Saturdays we get together for food fun and games. On Sundays we have a big home cooked meal after church and then we relax, watch Christian videos, have Bible studies where the guys and girls can ask questions and hopefully get some answers.

If your sons or daughters get orders to the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area and you think they might be interested in getting away from the base for a few hours, into a "real" home, with a real family, let them know about us. We'd love to invite them over. Send us a private message on here and we'll give you our contact information. We've had several Navyformoms' sailors to the house. Some Navyformoms have even visited!

My son is an E-2 pilot on the Truman. He just qualified and this will be his first mission in the fleet. He says the E-2 is the safest plane in the Navy. They just did a big upgrade on the plane but there were no safety improvements because it is already so safe. But of course nothing is perfect. Wonder why they only had 2 NFOs instead of the usual 3?

How would I go about signing up for the one where I am?
Comment by StaciBabe on March 30, 2010 at 6:36pm
I don't even know the name of his squadron.... :-(

Thank you, I do know that I can not talk to anyone about it. I know I'm allowed to say an about time and tell people info after it happened.... I don't even tell my parents everything, lol. I just would like to know around how long he's going to be gone, so I can make plans. If it's going to be more then a couple of months I need to make plans to go some where, because I just moved here, and know no one. I have never heard of the FRG... what is that? He is the type of guy who talks very minimal about work, so I don't know very much, I'm in the dark about a lot of things.
