For those of you that haven't found it yet -  USS Howard has a Facebook page with lots of pictures from their deployment so far - it is the best!  Check it out.  I found one of my son - so now I am happy!  :)

Paige - thanks so much for posting this picture!  I live in PA - our whole family does, and although I was able to spend a few days with my son in San Diego in March - we were not able to be there to see him off for his first deployment.  This picture is very precious to us all!  Cathy(zachsmom)

I have been lucky to hear from my son with phone calls and emails this past week - but he is now discontinuing  the phone service so we will be limited to Skype and the pay phone on the ship.

I heard from my daughter today by email she sounds good.  I love hearing from her its just as though we are texting each other.  I will definitely keep intouch with you all through out this deployment because I will need you all to make me feel that I am not alone.  And I know what you are talking about with the ceremony for first timers but I am not sure what they do either because when I was in the Navy I was stationed at North Island San Diego but never to a ship.  But whatever it is it will be funny and memorable!  I will talk to you ladies soon, bye.

My son requested his favorite peanut butter, granola bars, and cocoa dusted almonds as well as a jump rope.  In his email he said the weather is just beautiful and the seas are calm now. It was great to hear from him!  thanks for sharing all the ideas!

I hope you ladies know how comforting it is to hear from you all and that we have the same kind of thoughts.  I put Kaela's package together and I cry the whole time its rediculeous, but my kids call me a big cry baby anyways.  But what I wanted to say is that I went to the store and just started buy all kinds of stuff it will be the most expensive package that she will get and I can't do it all the time but I hope to send her one each month.  I sent her cards, nail polish, gum, journal w/pens, cookies, lip gloss its goofy stuff that she will love.  Its like I'm sending her stuff to summer camp.  But she will have request, she has already told me to send laundry detergent each month.  She does not have a laptop but hopefully the girls in her birthing section will watch as a group or share.  They will be very close by the time this is all done.

Well like I said at the beginning I appreciate you all for sharing and you help me out so much with your stories.  I am hear for all of you if you just need someone to listen to your fears or help with ideas.  I was also in the Navy (many years ago) and  they will take care of  our sailors.  Our sailors will meet the best people while serving and they will enjoy things that they might not have experience otherwise.  They will live the rest of their life pride of what they have accomplished while serving their country!  While we are missing them, they are ok.  Doing a job they have been trained to do and have the confidence to complete it.

I did hear from my daughter today by email.  So I can make it a couple more days!  LOL  Well until the next time, I will keep all service members in my prays.

Hi Paige - this is my son's first deployment also and I would like to send him some phone cards.  How do you know which ones to get?

I'm sitting here getting a care package together for her.  She has never been out on deployment yet so I don't really know what to send her.  They are so limited on their space but I am sending nail polish and lip gloss.  LOL such girly things but you know all the girls will enjoy the nail polish.  Does anyone have any suggestions on what to send her?  She asked me to send her Crystal Light and stamps so that will be in this package.  Anything that you ladies can think of please let me know.  This seems harder then Boot Camp!

Well they set sail today for their deployment.  My daughter is cranking right now shes in the mess hall doing dishes.  All I hope for is they have a great time on this deployment, they come back on time and they do not engage in any enemy activity.  I don't even know if I am saying that correctly but everyone knows what I mean.  I hope they are safe and return unharmed.  I hope this for all the moms, daughters, wives, fathers, sons, husbands, brothers and sisters that are along side my sailor.  May God keep them safe.

Like I said most likely I wont be able to go because of the whole unemployed thing but if anyone gets a chance to see the BM department and you see a tall girl and her name is "Smith" thats my baby and tell her I wish I was there and I am very proud of her.  I am proud of all of  our kids.  Thanks
