Wow sorry about the long winded comment again but I thought it would help some other moms to hear how safe and trusted my son was about this deployment

To Maddie and all the families going to the send off have a safe trip!!!

I was thinking to myself tonigh about how worried I am about my son and missing him and worrying about his safety and then I thought about the officers. They not only have the stress of missing their families but I can not imagine the stress they feel combined with the pressure they have keeping our loved ones safe.

I was talking to Drew this afternoon as usual reminding him to e-mail when he can and begging him to be safe and he laughed..... He is happy about traveling and seeing parts of the world which I can relate to but he also said mom no one is going to get hurt we are so well trained and there are so many safety measures he said I will be fine mom yada yada yada.

The most important thing he said besides I love you mom was that he had total faith in the command he said they made sure we all trained and had us practice so much that he has total faith that the crew is ready and he is actually anxious to go abroad represent the US and be part of the Jason Dunam making a difference. As usual I cried and told him I am so proud of him but I was still going to go crazy when he is gone...lol I told him he will understand when he has kids ( I always hated that when my parents said that)

Take care, Paula

Maddie, can you give Ariel a hug from me also? I can not be there, but I will be there when they get back no matter what even if I have to walk the whole way. My heart is breaking at the thought of spending another Christmas without one of my kids again. But the clown nose thing made me smile. It is hard to do that these days through all the tears. This is my baby girl!

@Navymom9875   I have sent allot of packagges to deployed military I don't know and what I do is on the first package I always include batteries, flashlight for their bunk, a key lock, ear bud headphones, magazines, then fill the rest of the box with candy, trail mix, microwave popcorn and some thing fun like a ball to toss or frisbee, I was told women like puzzles, coloring books, movies for both. Then I include a letter and give them my e-mail and Facebook name and address so if possible they can write me and let me know if there is any thing they need throughout the rest of deployment or if they want me to just wing it. One mom said there is a cookbook for cakes and pies you back in a jar then if it is a cake you send a can of frosting. Last X-Mass we sent a bag of  big clown red noses to be like Roudolf noses and a group of them put them on and took a picture. Oh I love makeing goodie boxes!!!

I go to Big Lots, Dollor Tree and Walgreens.

Maddie will you give my son a Navy Mom Hug for me if you see him?

I wish I could be there to see my son, hugs my son and I would really love to meet you ladies here/ I was telling my son  not to worry about me just to try and email me when he can I just want to know he is ok. I told him about you all and how we have been chatting more due to them leaving and how we are friends and will pass allowed info to each other and support each other. He never understood my being on Navy4moms but now he says cool with the deployment and all.

He sounds so much better now I think packing up his apt taking care of his car and all was a bit much. He has been calling me every day and sounds really good I would say "Phyched" about useing all the training he has had. I hope everyone is safe I am getting teary eyed again thinking about them being so far away.... : (

This is a great site for a newbie like myself.  Great information for a new mom to help ease her mind.

Just a heads up my mom tried to send a box fed ex group because of the discount and they would not do it. Said they don't do FPO shipping. I was disapointed. I think it is easier to send USPS and safer because they do it in volume but she did not want to listen. So I ended up running to the post office and over to grandma's with boxes.

Hi gals,

I am loving the conversations you all are having on this site. LOVE IT!!

If you are interested in sponsoring a sailor please send me your information and I will give you the contact info for a sailor who could use your support.

Glad you got the USPS info, you can ask for as many Military Care Packages as you like, there is no limit.

There will be a Family Day on the ship, this Friday from 1-5pm with lunch provided. This is a last minute event but if you will be in town you are welcome to come.

The morning of departure the Family Readiness Group will host a lunch at a small park a few piers down from our ship.  You will drop your sailor off that morning, or some prefer the evening before, and then come back to the park around 11am to join us. The ship will sail right past us and we will have our flags flying. Our members decided that rather than going home and being sad alone, they would rather be sad together. Crying is allowed at this event. :) More info to come in your emails.

As always, if you don't get my emails please contact me at jasondunhamfrg@gmail.com.

Thank you to all who sponsored a shoe box for our mid deployment fund raiser! I cannot thank you enough.
