Thanks for the USPS phone number, Maddie. They said they will send out boxes, tape and customs forms, enough for 6 packages and I can reorder when needed.
GDoutt - from what I have been told they try to keep the farewell low key then the homecoming is a big deal. I don't know if this is correct or not. I have said my in-person good-byes to my sailor already (it was very tough) and will hope for a quick phone call right before departure.
MissMySailor: I also am willing to send packages to those that don't have family. Anyone know how we can facilitate that?
Also, anyone have suggestions for what kinds of things to put in goodie boxes?
Hello everyone, My son is getting ready for deployment. This is all new to me and I'm feeling extremely overwhelmed. I'm considering coming up for the deployment but not sure exactly what to expect and what I need to do. Can someone help fill me in? Thank you.
Yes I thought that was the best way to send it was those special flat rate military boxes but has anyone ever sent them by Fed ex?? My sister has a soecial rate with fed ex so she wants to send my son some thing tomorrow but I was not sure about that.
How is everyone doing? Do you all have your Navy flags ready to fly? I will be putting mine out when they leave and it will stay until they ALL return safely!
I was making a list for my sons goodie box when deployed and I had a thought. Is there a way that people on the ship that do not have family to send boxes to them can maybe sign up for say a "Deployment Adoption"??? I have done packing parties for Molly's Adopt a Sailor in the past but would rather help a few on The Uss Jason Dunham and focus on our ship while it is away. I know it has to be hard to see your friends get goodie boxes, fresh socks and stuff and not get a box yourself. Who could I ask about working some thing like this out???
I found a lady on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/matthew.tackett.92/posts/369947573070702?re...
She makes stained glass and other things that are Navy themed ( If I remember right she is a Navy mom) I know we all like to have things around the house to remember the ship and keep them in our prayers, she has real pretty candle holders the small square kind too.
Have a great night I know it is hard I am still crying for no reason here and there well the reason is the ship leaving for so long...... We will get through it I know it just seems like a long haul. Hugs Paula
We are all stressed at this time. All we can do is be there for each other. It is not just the Navy. All military have their pro's and con's. But at this time, I do feel that the Marines seem to be run a little better. But I am still new to this Navy thing. :) Keep your head up. Things will work out. All we can do is pray!!
Sorry for venting in that last post. I am just stressed to the max these days and I know how hard my son works.
I've had to say good-bye as well and won't be there when they leave. It was sad but I'm happy that he is doing something he enjoys.
Congrats to you and your son, Maddie. Being promoted is a great thing. Unfortunately Ariel is stuck where she is until she gets out of being undesignated and into Corpman. It has only been 4 days since she has been gone and I am so sad and miss her so much already. I wish I could be there when they leave, but as of now, I dont see any way of working it out. :(
I hope that you are all enjoying time with your sons and daughters. As usual the time is going by way too fast. But we have been having a great time together. Yesterday my married daughter, my son, his girlfriend and Ariel all got up at 530am to go running. Then Falon, Chad, my 3 grand kids, Ariel and I all went to the Zoo. What memories Ariel and the grand kids are making. They all love and miss their Aunt Ariel. We have a wedding tomorrow and a 30th surprise birthday party on Sunday at the camp ground. We still have to find time to make it to the cemetery to see Matt, my husband and their dad. This August on Ariel's 22nd birthday will be 10 years since he has been gone. He would be so proud of all 3 of his kids and what they have all accomplished. To all you moms out there. Make all the memories you can to last until our sons and daughters come back home to us. Happy Memorial Week End to you all!!
