Please see the email below that I sent out yesterday (I did shorten it). As always, if you do not receive my emails but would like to please email me at jasondunhamfrg@gmail.com
Family Readiness Group,
A fellow member has presented an exciting idea as a way to fund raise while the ship is away. The idea is that the FRG will send out prepackaged shoe boxes with the ship at the start of deployment. Half way through deployment those shoe boxes will be raffled off to the highest bidder. Crew members will be able to pay with their Navy Cash Card so the funds can be easily transferred to the FRG. The auctioneer will start each box at $10. As a group if we could package 25 shoe boxes that would be a minimum profit of $250.
Here is what we need...
Volunteers to assist in collecting these donations. Perhaps you know a family, business, or organization that would like to sponsor a box. They will purchase, package and send their donation to the Family Readiness Group. Each box should be valued at no less than $10. Boxes can be themed for example, Thanksgiving, Christmas, beach, music, patriotic, Boy box, Girl box and more. The crew members will only know the theme of the box at the start of the auction. The specific contents of each box will be a surprise. All items must be non-perishable. We can even have "mega boxes" for high dollar items.
As a group we will want to celebrate many occasions during this deployment, Homecoming being the most important. These celebrations will require some fund raising on our part. Please contact me by Friday, May 18th if you are interested in this great volunteer position. Please also consider sponsoring one of the 25 boxes. Spread the word to out of town friends and relatives to see if they may be interested in sponsoring a box as well.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Hi ladies,
Sorry I haven't been on in a while. We have had several big trips this month. I know it's tough but remind yourselves that this underway was the perfect ice breaker to deployment. It is engrained in your sailor that someone will always be reading their emails both ways. If you ask them if they are going to be home on a certain date, I can promise you they are not (and should not) answer. As a wife this certainly takes some getting use to but be proud of your sailor for putting security first!
Also, I have learned not to ask yes/no questions but open ended questions such as, "Tell me about your typical day on the ship" or "What the best thing about your day today.". This may help lengthen their return emails. Keep in mind that not all crew members have easy access to computers. Keep your expectations low! With that said, you could ask your sailor to try to email once a week during deployment. This doesn't mean it will happen but it is good to share expectations and keep them reasonable.
The ship's schedule has not changed, if you are not receiving ship updates from our ombudsman please send me an email and I will connect you. Email me at jasondunhamfrg@gmail.com.
I can't wait to meet each of you and am thankful you are staying connected through this website! Enjoy your visits with your sailors!

Hi all, Ok suppose to see my son this weekend BUT I have this heavy rotten feeling in my stomach that his leave is going to be canceled.
Is this just normal mommy feeling because I know it is my last chance to see him for a long time or just that I know the Navy changes things in a heart beat.
I am suppose to be getting in the shower to go out today I am an hour behind I just don't have that drive in me...LOL all I can think of is my Big Hug he give me such good mom hugs.
Ok I vented and I know it will be ok so tell me it will be ok...LOL
Good thinking Navymom9875
Concerning the atlases for location purposes, I think it's great idea if we have similar atlases but be sure you don't put the name of the specific atlas you are buying on this site. That information should only be sent via private message because if you publish the name of the atlas and then later the location info using that atlas, that would be a security violation.
Although I have a reason to LOVE this picture here is an even better look at what the crew of our GREAT ship does out there when they are underway (A BIG THANK YOU TO SUE FOR LETTING ME KNOW ABOUT THIS)

Maddie - I'm so glad you finally heard from your son! Hooray! What a relief!
Hey, Ariel actually got to call me on Tuesday morning. They were close enough to shore for her to get a signal. That is what is good about having a girl in the military, they call and email their mom's. :) But my son did it also when he was in Iraq. So I don't know why your son isn't calling or emailing, Maddie??
I'm glad you feel better! We're all here to help each other out and I sure understand how worrisome it can be when you haven't heard anything in so long.
