OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

jkl2z7 I gave them a call and it was painless.
It's really the safest way to find out I think.

Large, sadly no.  This is my second Navy deployment (we are Marine Corps).  As it stands now, the Command has not said anything about extending the length of the leave periods.  This is not saying that it could not happen, but the Command at the moment has other things to deal with.

embarkguru, usually after a deployment our sailors go on liberty. But have you seen extended liberties like two weeks after an extended deployment? I know this is impossible to answer but have you seen this before?

It does!  Out of ten deployments that I have gone through, I do believe this one will DEFINITELY stand out.  I don't know if its from length, activity, or what.

Cindy, I ask the same thing but you have to realize that the folks there can 'see' all of our ships there.  There are so many reports in those areas right now because of the civil unrest in most of those countries and providences...its kind of hard to hide them.  We will follow OPSEC, and like everyone else, we will watch the news broadcasts but will not mention their locations...specifically.

There were mentioned along with a couple of other ships in the 'hood'.  This is a standard thing.  Its funny since the news is making a big deal out of it.  Please continue to remember your OPSEC.  You guys have really being doing great!!
