Hi--I was out of commission pretty much of 3 days. So if you have any questions about our Molly's Adopt a Sailor, let me know.  Otherwise, it looks like some of our other Moms have been there to jump in.

We love your families, and appreciate all your sailors are doing for us.

I am glad that I am not the only one that has been out of the loop. What an awesome project. I cannot attend a packing party nor do I sew but I will definitly be getting some boxes together for Holy Joe Cafe. Do I use the labels on Mollys website and put Holy Joe Cafe on them? And then is there a certain day to send them?

Oh, and if you have a serger, you don't need to encase the seams.
Comment by carols_kitchen on February 6, 2011 at 5:04pm
btw--if you have a facbric with a one way design (penquins and flamingos) think thru your hem placement or it will run upsie down.  The zebra strip I did just as a simple hem of same fabric.

Sindy--never too late as we do this every month if you catch the Mollys Adopt A Sailor bug.

You can do it one of two ways.  One is to take the 44-45" wide fabric, run a 1/4 inch hem, then fold that up another 4 or so inches to make a nice deep hem.  Then, to encase all the stitching, sew it first in the L shape (you're only doing a top and one side seam, because you are folding the fabric in half) with wring side together, then turn inside out and resew the same seam. I use about 1/4 inch seam first time, then a little larger the second time.

The other is to cut separate hems and bodies.  These instructions have pictures with them. http://www.operationsupportfordeployedmilitary.org/PCDir.php

If you have any other questions, just send me a message.

youtube--we have some videos under Mollys Adopt a Sailor.

jlk2z7, you can still participate even now with one box . We have the group page Molly's Adopt a Sailor.  We are stocking Holy Joe's Cafe.  Coffee, gum, sunflowerseeds, etc.  I can provide the link later, but have to go to church.

Ladies, we just love seeing all the things are you are doing for these sailors!  We would like to share all of your efforts with the ship.  Would you mind emailing us the video with a brief summary of who you are and who your sailor on board is?  Also with the video picture, would you mind doing the same?  We will send these to the Mass Communication folks and they can post it on their Face Book page and hopefully do something in the Summit or on board the ship.  Don't worry about sending things from the pillow cases, I don't want to spoil their surprise.  Just let us know.
