OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Asking for some prayers today.  My husband and I will be one of many attending a funeral for a PFC in Bordentown, NJ tomorrow.  We will be lining the streets to keep back the group from the Westboro Baptist Church, the group that goes to funerals for our fallen heroes and harasses the family.  It's going to take all my strength not to say anything against these hateful people.

I know it was posted on facebook for us NOT to post it on facebook if we do find out a return date. I am sure we will find out closer to time. I know that with the first deployment we did. I emailed or called and they let us know real close to that date. I know that we all just want them all safely returned to us.

By the way, I receive the Summit and there has been no mention of a return date there.

Posting a date is so dangerous! Please do not do that as it affects not only the sailors but the Marines as well.
Comment by embarkguru on January 20, 2011 at 2:55pm
Please, as your ships Ombudsman, DO NOT post any dates for the ships return.  You can contact Lorie and I directly at the phone numbers that are with the Summit.

It's all over FB that people know the return date. I guess we need to E mail our omnibudsman?

Prayers go out to the family and shipmates of the sailor that was lost from the USS Halsey. My daughter has also commented on how busy they are. They are short manning in their department and I know she works every day so it sounds like it is common for this deployment. She was on the last deployment to Central and South America. That one was not nearly as long as this one will be.

My heart goes out to the family and crew of the Halsey. RIP Sailor!!!!
