So he fell overboard it seems? Funny how we hear bad news every day on TV but this little bit of news actually made me cry just now. I can't even imagine what the family is going thru.

Oh that is so awful about the missing sailor. I can't believe that. I hope they find him soon.

We're moms.  We worry.  Comes with the territory.  We just have to believe that our kids can do this.

It is so different for each sailor or Marine and for each deployment.  I had no idea going in, as this is my son's first one.  I know that they are all working hard, and I hope that the remainder of the float goes better for all.  I do know that every experience they have will be part of their lives forever, and they will be better for it, knowing what they are capable of doing.

My son also says he never has time to do anything, always busy working or on watch, this is his second deployment. The first was nothing like this one. The first one he was one land alot. This one has really done him in too. He re-upped for another 3 years this past June and boy does he regret it now, He is so angry and depressed. I have written here before that he is mad at me because i try to build him up and encourage him. I dont even know what to write to him anymore, because it seems no matter what I say to him. It is the wrong thing. I love and miss him so much. He dont want me to do the Tiger Cruise. He is just so, I dont know, just not his old Happy self since this deployment started. I wish them all the safest voyage home. I have read all of the comments here and it seems that I am not the only one that has this problem. I am glad that your sons and daughters are calling and writing, My son says that they arent allowed to call off the ship unless the number starts with 757 area codes. But, then I see that you get calls. I just think that maybe he dont want to call. I dont know. What do you think??

True all deploys are different, but my daughter was on one and a half humaniteran Excuse the spelling error, missions and they were also working really hard  and also in most of the south american countries after the hugh, earthquake/ tsumami.. and under strwssful conditions.. in Columbia under armed guard, and not even doing their regular jobs, not much call for an AO's regular job , so they did other jobs.  Also had some very memerable experiences. Only two port calls that I recall, but as Sue said, they were ashore alot, just working.  I truly hope that  everyone survives, and that someday they  & we will be able to truly appreciate all that they have done. No one ever said it was going to be easy being part of a military family. my Grandmother had two sons in the Navy at the same time and the communicationsystems were nothing like they are now.  I thank everyone of your sailors and you for your sacrifices... Cause i have been there also..

Wow i am amazed that your sailors are complaining about what a  same routine they have day in and day out.. My daughter when she was on the ship, had time for meals, exersize, her job and studying and qualifiing for her Air War Force Pin. Plus going on her mission work, and being part of the ship's security force.  When I tell her about this mission she just shakes her  head and says  no way they don't have some free time. So I am at a loss as to what to think or say to you. She also said every job whether military or civilianis what you make of it and that they all seem the same after awhile if you let it happen.

My husband said it was like that when he was in, days all seem the same.  Sounds like how life in general gets that way, sometimes.
Comment by Largefilipino on January 16, 2011 at 10:00pm
What gets me is that I'm reading my daughter's e mails and she basically says everyone is doing the same thing again and again every day,day in and day out. And when life moves on with everyone else to the sailors it's just like time simply stopped.
I want my girl home too. :(
But she's okay. That's all that matters.
