Good morning Ladies! I recieved a very upbeat email this morning yayyy!! She sounds good but still homesick. She also had a bad reaction to one of the vaccines....GRRRR! I am much better today! Thanks for the great words of encouragment and inspiration!! She responded that she is excited about the K7.net voice mail, but did not indicate if she had actually received any of the messages yet. I will keep you all posted. Have a great day!

Well I have a daughter inthe Navy. She has been in four years if you count dep, and it has been awesome. She is about out, because of a medical injury which happenend to her on the last deployment. She is both excited and sad about having to leave the Navy, sad cause she will in her words miss the Navy life, but glad because she has a 13 month old and will not have to be seperateted from him because of deployments. i have never felt I needed to protect her.. she is an AO which has the potential to be dangerous as does any job if you really think about.. but she has been well trained. For the past 17 months she has been on land working on admin. at Norfolk base and has said repeatedly, that she liked being on the "boat" a whole lot better. Yes it is tough being away from them at holidays and major family events. Our family has missed three Christmas's, three 4 Thanksgivings, four of her birthdays, three News year's and all the other little day to day events. trust me when I tell you that you have been hearing alot more from your sailors this deployment than I did when she was on hers. This site is a great site for venting, virtual crying etc. as well as sharing in the accomplishments our awesome young people our doing. No one ever said being part of a military family was going to be easy... i am part of two.. Daughter Navy.. son-in-law to be is a Marine... it was much more scary when he was deployed to Afganistan this past year, than it ever has been with my Navy gal.. i truly wish the best for all of you and know that we are all in this together. this is also the season when we can light our blue candles to help us remember our loved ones who are deployed to show our support for them and what they do.. I am so proud of all of them... and I only know them through this awesome site.

dma57 hello! Glad to have someone close! 3 deployments, WOW! I have been trying like crazy not to get overwhelmed with the fact that I haven't heard from her in a few days. When I have heard from her she's had the same sadness...I do my best to keep things positive, but the tears come pretty easily for me as well. Glad to have a "virtual" shoulder to lean on :-)

Yvette Nvymom - I am in Kentucky!! Didn't know there was another Navy mom so close!!! =)
I've said before that this is my daughter's third deployment on the Kearsarge but it has been by far the hardest one!! I hear from her only via email and they come very sporadically. She is keeping very busy, which is good, but each time we hear from her she sounds so sad. I just wish I could give her a hug! I've shed many tears just thinking about her but I'm always upbeat when I write to her.

I hear that all cell phones are being stored away till after deployment of if and when our sailors can dock. I'm looking into this k7.net too but we have also left messages on her phone that she can retrieve later when she gets her phone back.

Welcome Yvette. Lori, I am praying for you, your son and your grandson. I too am a single mom Sindy. I know the hardships. I don't always speak here, but I always read everyday and I find that this is our family and I find alot of support here. For this I am thankful to each of you. We all will get through these holidays together. Thanks NMoms. Robert is apparently still mad at me. I keep praying for all of our sons/daughters and I hope that their spirits will lift. I cry at the top of a hat. This is our second deployment and for some reason this one is harder, even though we are in more contact with each other. I dont understand it. He is more down than ever before. Anyway, I hope everyone has a Great night and A Great day tomorrow and again Welcome Yvette.

I was on the USS IKE family page and someone had a post about setting up a voicemail box for your sailor. You go to the K7.net website and YOU have to set up your sailors email address and password. Then they will get instructions on how to access voice mail via an email. I set it up for my daughter this morning. ITS FREE! They will assign a US phone number that you can pass along to family and friends to leave encouraging messages. I thought it was a great idea!! I'll let everyone know if my daughter finds it easy to access and manage. I believe the box is full at 20 messages. I will keep everyone posted.

Julie your sailor is on the ship and she can text you? I have at&t and gave her the world roaming plan. I heard this wasn't possible until they were off the ship. Because if it is I'll start texting her at 2 in the morning tonight!
