We have not got one from the ship today. It happens from time to time. We should get two tomorrow.

Hi Prescillaz
I sent my son chocolate his last deployment and by the time he got it it was one big bar, it all melted together. Just want you to know what could or will happen with the candy bars.

Thanks Sissi, my son has come home every year at New Years. With travel time he is here for 9-10 days. He spends much of that sleeping. His flight costs him two months (or more) salary and he is still planning on coming home this year with his Japanese girlfriend. Thanks for the information. I am so exited that I will be able to phone and visit him whenever I want.

Where has the Kearsarge gone in the last year?

I need a lesson. When I asked how long they are usually deployed, I meant when they go out in general. I read back your posts for the last year and I realized that this long deployment was planned a year ahead. Does that mean when they come back that they will be stateside for awhile with small trips out to sea?

My only experience with the navy is his current 3 year orders in Japan. I just learned that Japan is not their home port. He is permanently forward deployed. He goes out weeks to months at a time. Twice a year he is out 3-4 months. They spend up to 50% of their time in Japan. (less before the recent navy fuel budget cuts).

I just learned that he might be going to Australia in the spring. Funny, he might end up having to be transported from Australia to Japan. Then sent to Norfolk to be transported to the ship. It sounds cheaper to have him go the other way around the world. LOL.

As far as packages. I send them most months. Flat rate boxes. His FPO address is a San Diego address. They go to the ship with supplies (all from San Diego). It has taken 5 days to almost 1 month and it makes no difference if they are in port. I would imagine that in Norfolk they would get them quickly but when deployed it would depend if their supplies come from Norfolk. I am learning here.
