Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

My son is a Marine on the Kearsarge. Hope I'm welcome. :) This is his first deployment. Just wondering if someone has any idea how motomail works. I sent him a letter on 9/16 but it still shows to be in stage 1 status. Is it usual for a letter to be in stage 1 for 4 days? Is there some way to find out if he really got it and just the status is wrong?

Thanks Elizabeth :) I've no response to emails on my side yet. I'm assuming they are still in River City.

Elizabeth(MomofJosh) oh it wasn't your post. It was information read elsewhere. Thanks to all who answered questions about River CIty, we're a little less freaked out and more at ease now.

Cindy, River City is not a location but is a operational term. Basically, the ship has restricted a certain percentage of the communications that leave the ship. The crew can still receive email, they just can not send anything. The length of River City is NEVER the same. Sometimes a day; sometimes a week.

Sissi, you are correct about the small pox. They limit exposure because they are vaccinated with a live virus. Still nasty stuff. The other wonderful one that they get is anthrax. According to my husband, this is the worst one yet. He's had anthrax vaccination before but for some reason this one just made him sick.

Cheryl, they will probably do every thing on the ship.

It means that e-mail is down for a liitle while, the ship will get e-mails but can't send them out. Keep e-mailing them.

This is all new to me, FB says the ship is in River City. We're worried sick here not knowing exactly what it means.

Lori. I hope everything is ok with your grandson. I will be praying for him. Also, sorry about your son's friend. I will be praying for your son and his friends family. I know how upset he must be to be so far away at a time like this. I know my son would want to know. NavyMom I am so glad that you finally got to hear from your son. It is great ain't it. Well. ladies have a great weekend.
