Just talked to my daughter. They're back in Norfolk where she says they have 8 inches of snow and it's still coming down -they're saying as much as 15 inches before it's done.

She said another ship took the place of the one they were to relieve but they are still on standby.

Thanks for the welcome! It is nice to find a group where we are all sharing in the same thing. I hope that many will find the support we all need here! Thank you!!

I was a navy wife (30+ years ago) and now a navy mom (my daughter, Amanda). I remember how hard it was being a newly married and having my husband leave on deployment. I have to say, it is equally hard to have my daughter away! We live out of state so I haven't seen her since October when she was home for her sister's wedding. I really miss her!

I am new to this forum but not new to the Navy. I have a daughter whose been onboard the Kearsarge for a couple of years. I talked to her last night and she said they had to report for duty at 10pm and were to ship out this morning. I haven't heard from her since then.

Tried to phone my son this morning to see if they were shipping out today. No answer, so not sure if they are underway or not.

I know. Mike was in Japan for 2 years and was denied leave every time he requested it. He'll be in for 5 years this year. It's just his first time on Sea Duty, so it's something to adjust to.

I'm just really frustrated with this whole Haiti thing being so up in the air and so many rumors going around.... >_/body>

Hi all! I talked to my daughter today and she also said that they may go but it is not 100%. The USS Baataan was sent and is there now but that ship is due into the yards at some point and may have to return before they complete the assignment. Kim also was on the humanitarian mission in 2008 when they went to provide aid.

Hi all, sorry I didn't post but I have not been on much. Too busy in the summer with work and the garden. Daughter has been assigned to the Kearsarge since May 2008 and is a CTR. She and her husband live in Hampton, VA. Her husband is in the Air Force.
