yea, its definitely not easy! but we are just trusting that God will get us through as He has before, thankfully.

and rominpa i got more details on this (after being able to instant message my man for the first time in almost a month! yay! lol)- the 2 different leave dates for stand down are 11th-25th of December and 1-15 of January. They can request more/different dates but that all depends on their standing with their chief as well as qualifications, etc. hope this helps!

rominpa- that is the big question for me too right now! i know haley would be able to better answer it, but as far as i know they will be getting 2 separate leave times in december for holiday stand down. my fiance let me know that they have to bid on which time they want off, and whoever has seniority gets to pick first and then it goes down the line. they can try to ask off for more than the average 10-14 days (not sure exactly) but this will depend on the final word that they get. we are desperately in need of knowing this right now because we are getting married during his leave in december! we chose a date that should work regardless of how much time he has, but it has been so stressful trying to plan a wedding and honeymoon around an unknown time that he will be here. so, i feel your pain in wanting to know what they will get! haha

Do any of you know if there's any sort of holiday "stand-down" for the Lassen around Christmas/New Year's, and if so, do the sailors normally have time to come home during that time? Or do they usually spend the holidays in Japan?

I saw that too.  I think those poor people need mother nature to give them a break already.....

good to hear he has lodging! my fiancé had some of the same troubles when trying to get to yokosuka, and once he did the ship was out to sea then as well. he was told to take a long bus ride to sasebo where they were in port at the time, but hopefully your sailor will get to wait it out on base in yokosuka! what is his rate/job?

Mrs.W - The USO has been wonderful!  They got him a hotel for tonght and he is emailing his sponsor but I don't how familiar he is with the chain of command at Yokosuka to email them.  His sponsor gave him phone numbers but they don't work for some reason. He used the country codes but they just keep ringing busy. I have to say he is handling it really well.  I think he's just worried about being there on time because he was supposed to report on Sept 6.  Hopefully he'll get more answers today or tomorrow.   Thanks for you help : )

Or does he at least have lodging?  I hate that this has happened to him, I've been hearing from a lot of our newer people that Sea-Tac had messed up their flights too.
