Hello ladies, my son is still in Aschool & expected to graduate in Jan 2015. He got his soft order last week and will be joining USS MD. Can anyone share us (from westcoast) any info on this FBMsub? Thanks :)
Hello everyone, My son will also be on the Gold Crew. Trying to learn what they will be doing while ship is in dry dock.
My son graduated A school and is finally on his way. He only had a few days, so he is staying at a friends house in Virginia then reporting to ship early next week. He is on Blue although I believe all are green while in dry dock.. so trying to learn this new lingo! His brother is a Corpsman in SC! Any other information would be awesome. I am assuming that he will not be resting.. LOL...but get straight to work earning his quals..?
Thanks BearyBlue!
My son is graduating A school next month and has been assigned to the USS Maryland Gold crew. I realize it is in dry dock in VA, how has it worked out for others who have recently joined getting their quals?
Congratulations to your son Nana16, my son was assigned to the Maryland and went out on the Alaska to get qualified. After that he went on leave and was injured in an accident which caused a blood clot in his leg and then went to his lung, so he was disqualified from submarines. He is on limited duty for now until he is re-evaluated. I was always worried about him being on a sub, but now if I had to do it all over again I would be happy that he was healthy enough to be on one.
For those who are new to all this, while the USS MARYLAND is based out of King's Bay, she is currently in drydock at the Naval Shipyard in Norfolk/Portsmouth Virginia. The members of the crew have to ride other boats to get their quals completed because they have to be ready to do their job when she is ready to go back to sea. My son just became the new Commander of the "Fighting Mary" last week in Norfolk.
I have not been on here for a very long time now but I was wondering if there are still some of you that are still on the boat!? We are trying to start up an FRG even though our husbands are at home I think it would be good to meet other wives from the boat and have events to bring us closer!? I think I'm going to start coming to this page more often because I think it was very helpful in the past and I'm hoping we can grow this group more and plan get togethers so we can meet and make need friends since there are a lot of new wifes and our husbands all work together! :-)
