I've been wringing my hands for the past 2 weeks hoping for some news and finally it occurred to me to ask you guys.  (You can blame it on stress, age, general idiocy or all of the above.)  My son's birthday is the last week of August.  I sent him packages, a card and several e-mail birthday wishes.  A few days later the article appears in the New York Times about the Mason being in the Strait of Hormuz while the Iranians are being annoying.  I haven't seen the newsletter on facebook either.  Are they getting mail?  Are they able to get or send Email?  I know this is dumb but while I'm not worried for his safety (who do they think they're messing with?) it hurts my heart to think that he didn't hear from home on his birthday.  Any news would be appreciated.  Keep OPSEC in mind.  Just to know my emails are getting through but he's too busy to answer would be good.

We stayed at the Navy Lodge when we visited our son last summer. I was under the impression that you couldn't check in unless you have your sailor with you. We would like to stay there again, but we will be coming in the day before, so that probably won't work for us, but we really liked it the Lodge.

We will be staying at the Navy Lodge. Are any of the moms here aware of the Surprise for Sailors on the USS Mason Facebook page. They have done some pretty incredible things for our kids while they have been deployed. They have had awesome fundraisers and organized volunteers to send boxes to our sailors once a month. I adopted 4 sailors during the deployment. They have some great fundraisers going on for the sailors too. If your interested in finding out about the fundraiser or having a last minute fundraiser in your neck of the woods please let me know. All the proceeds go to the sailors homecoming!! Lets make this a memorable on for them!! My email is erinmtodd@yahoo.com. Also there is a site called buildasign.com they will make a sign designed by you for free all you have to pay is shipping and handling. I just got my sign it came out  awesome!! I cant wait to bring it to the dock!

We are driving from Illinois to Virginia.  Can't give you any advice except hang loose and roll with the waves.  There will be rooms of some sort.  It's a touristy area!  I don't know where we'll wind up but it has to be a whole lot close to my sailor son than I have been for the past nine months!!  I can't wait!!!!!!

Is anyone traveling to Norfolk for homecoming?  I am trying to make motel reservations & just wondered if anyone had any good advice on a motel choice that is close to the base!
