Hello again!  My husband is on the Mason.  Being able to plan this fundraiser with FRG has helped me keep my mind busy.  Having the opportunity to help make Homecoming that much better makes me proud to be a Mason wife.  Don't miss out on the chance to support the FRG and their efforts. If you would like more information on the fundraiser, please email me (erickaubri@gmail.com) so that I can send you the information.  Have a great day everyone and keep your heads up.  They will be home before you know it.  :)

Hello everyone!  My name is Ericka and I am hosting a fundraiser for the USS MASON FRG to raise funds for Homecoming.  If you are interested in supporting the event and the ship, please pm or email me (erickaubri@gmail.com) your email so that I can send you the information.  You do not need to be at the actual event in order to give your support.  Due to FRG rules, I can not post the information publicly.  If you have any questions, I'm more than happy to answer them.  I hope to hear from you all soon.

I know exactly how you feel, Sam's Mom.  It made a huge difference for me.  Not a surprise though.  When I was working as a nurse at the psych hospital I learned that it's always easier to do something than to not do something.  If you tell someone not to think of pink elephants of course that's the first thought that pops into their heads and it's impossible to get it out.  If you tell them that whenever they start to think of pink elephants they should replace those images with purple giraffes, that is a whole lot easier.  Don't be sad, don't be lonely, don't be worried for your sailor.  Yeah, right.  When you find yourself stuck on a negative loop, go shopping for your goodie bags and think how many sailor's Christmas you're going to brighten.  I can do that!

Okay, I' messed up. by packing the polls.  Don"t vote unless you're a member of the group and plan to be part of the project.  (But that's really easy to do if you promise to be a good Christmas elf.

Ladies and gentlemen!  If I might have a few moments of your time, I have a little speech.  My only child left for RTC in November two years ago.  That meant he was away for all the Holidays.  As you know only too well, it was not an easy eight weeks for me.  (Okay... maybe it was no day at the beach for him either... but it's all about ME, right?)  One thing that helped immensely was getting involved in the Navy for Moms Holiday Project.  Sending out goody packages to the crew of the USS Stennis kept me busy, gave me something to focus on, and cheered up the Holidays for the sailors out at sea.  Some of them e-mailed thanks, told me that the Navy had been good to them, and wished me and my son well.  I cannot tell you what it meant to me.  I am not trying to push anyone to get involved.  Times are tight and some of us have a lot of obligations.  I just wanted everyone to be aware of the project and the opportunity.  I have taken part the last two years and had a blast!  If you are interested check out the group HOLIDAY PROJECT.  You can read about what's involved, the history, some of the thank yous that people have posted in the past.  In addition, FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY!!!  you can vote for which ship we adopt this year (did I sound like a carnival barker there?  I did that on purpose.)  Voting is heavy right now for the USS Harry S Truman.  Pat, the leader of the project, thinks that trying to take on the whole strike group would be too big a task.  Maybe she's right.  But I hope not!  Another alternative is that we see if friends and family of the Mason want to have a mini Holiday project and adopt our OWN ship.  (About 380 goodie bags.)    We have to get permission to go forward so nothing is for sure yet. (For some reason the Navy thinks that if strangers suddenly bombard a ship with hundreds of packages in a few week period they need to know in advance.  What's that about?)   Once again,  I'm not trying to push anyone to get involved.  But if you think you would enjoy this, let me know what you think.  I'm game if you are!!

If you have not yet looked in to the Holiday project take a look .   NAVY FOR MOM's HOLIDAY PROJECT. This will be my third year of involvement.  It's tons of fun and the guys and gals are very appreciative.  You can do a little or a lot. The main group adopts whole aircraft carriers with crews of over 5000.  The Mason (mighty though she is) presents a much smaller task. What do you think.

By Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group Public Affairs Office

USS HARRY S. TRUMAN, At Sea (NNS) (NNS) -- Ships and embarked squadrons from Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HST CSG) entered U.S. 6th Fleet's area of responsibility (AOR), July 26 and 29th.

Guided-missile cruiser USS San Jacinto (CG 56) and guided-missile destroyers USS Mason (DDG 87) and USS Bulkeley (DDG 84), entered July 26, followed by strike group flagship and aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) and guided-missile cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG 64) July 29.

This is the first time HST CSG has entered the 6th Fleet AOR since its last deployment in 2010.

While in the eastern Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, HST CSG will be supporting maritime security operations (MSO) and theater security cooperation efforts. MSO are set conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment and complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations.
