Just in case you all wonder, I changed my profile pic from G. I. Love Flat Rate to an actual picture of me wearing my son's picture on my collar. I wish I had a picture of him and me together. I'll have to work on that when I see him again.

Scott has a skype account for his phone so I think that's what he used. He purchases minutes through skype and uses those to call. I've never asked how he accesses them but perhaps it's like phone cards where you dial into skype then it prompts you to dial the number you wish to call.  He also said the same thing about McDonald's. Hard to believe those prices!

LLoves, glad you heard from Alex :-)

Llovesmysailor - That is what my son said also about calling.  They are 4x expensive as here.  He said he went to Mc Donalds and a big mac meal was $16.00.  YIKES!   Its not worth the $5.00 here.

I heard from Alex through his facebook page. He didn't call because he didn't want to have to buy a burn phone in Norway. Just way too expensive. Hopefully he'll call from their next port of call.

Ish-mom, thanks for the FB skype tip. I have regular skype but son and I both have FB accounts so that might be easier. FB never ceases to amaze me!

Deanne, thanks for the FB tip. I will go to that group and look at the photos.

Looks like all the sailors in the photos are Conners. No Nukes. But then my son is camera shy!

go to Commander Submarine Force Atlantic.  they have a fb page.  The head of the Norwegian Navy boarded the Miami today.  There are 8 photos of him onboard the boat.  There are maybe 5-6 sailors in the px.  My son wasn't one of them.  But maybe one of yours will be!!

Deanne - love your weather comment.LOL coming from Minnesota that weather is nothing!  You can get skype for free on face book.  they have a special app that you can download pretty easy to do.  you both should look into it.

ISH - weather reminds  him of home - poor thing! lol.  JD said the weather was foul.  he had to buy an umbrella.  it rains all the time.  and of course is cold.  he ate a reindeer steak last night, said it was great.  glad you got to skype.  that would be fun.  i've talked on the phone and text on the computer.  today was the first day he said he was really ready to come home.  i think the dreary weather is getting to him.  i asked if he'd taken the funicular up the mountain or gone to see the local castle.  none. lol.  sounds like they shop, drink and eat in town and that's about it.  he's said there are some great restaurants.  they have to go to town in 3's.  glad everybody is hearing from them.  it's such a long way from home!
