LLoves- That is great!  I know my son always loved receiving carepacks when i sent them.  Esp the home baked goodies!  and his friends loved it also.  LOL.  They asked me to keep sending them after he left on the boat.

Are we allowed to send items to them?  If they can fit in an envelope?  I have heard different views on this.

ISH-MOM,

Before a sub deploys the wives, moms, etc. put together these pkgs. They call them bags because they are almost always 81/2 X 11 inch padded envelopes. They are taken on the sub and then at the half way point of the deployment, they are passed out to the crew. They usually have a half way celebration on the sub. These pkgs have the name of the crew member on them. But there are always extra for the single guys or guys that join the sub after they leave.

Alex was home when it was time to make up these pkgs. He was great at giving me a list of things to put  into them. He even went shopping at the dollar store with me and pick out things. I was really surprised that the things he bought were totally different than the list we were given by the FRG. So, don't worry, your son will have a half way bag.

What do you mean by half way pkgs?  I have not heard of that before.

The half way pkgs are the 81/2" X 11" padded envelopes. The mail drops only allow a legal size envelop, unless they tell us differently. But no boxes.

From what I heard is that the biggest envelope/pkg they can receive is a 8 1/2 x 11 padded.  becaouse they dont have much "personal" space to keep anything.

When they get a mail drop it is a one way thing. Usually a helo drops them a mail bag, unless they are in port somewhere. But I don't think they call it a drop in that case. I never get mail from him because he says they don't get enough warning before the mail goes out. Personnally, I just think he hates writing letters. He always tells me there is nothing to write. Then he tells me great stories when he gets home.

Thanks, Wendy. Let me know if you have any luck reaching the boat. I also sent a halfway bag and I email at least once a week. If they get such a mail drop could they also send mail to us? Or do they not allow it due to security?

Wendy, Thanks for the offer. I have the address, but I sent his half way boxes with him before he left. I once sent him a Halloween box that he got just in time for Easter!

Hello Ladies!  I agree that no news is good news, even though every day without word hurts pretty bad sometimes.  Can't wait to hear his Texas drawl again!

Flooding from Lee wasn't an issue in my area, Ledyard (right next door to Groton).  Some areas west of Hartford were hit hard, though.

Were any of you given the mailing address for cards / goodie boxes?  Not sure at all when they will get what we send, but I just recently found out the address myself.  Sent off a card as a test today.  Message me if you do not have it!
