Hi, Deanne, my messages are getting through but I haven't had one from my son since the left Spain. He told me I might not hear much from him for several months but I keep sending a couple emails a week.

Hi, new to this site.  My daughter -in-law and I have not heard from J.D. in about 2 weeks.  From previous experience, I expect the email is down.  Has anyone else gotten emails in the last week or 10 days?

Hi Jerri,

Alex will be out of the Navy by this time next year. The first week in July is his separation date. He is looking forward to becoming a college student. He's planning on getting his degree in Nuclear Engineering. But for now, he's enjoying every port of call they make. And he hopes there are a bunch of them. Not that that's likely to happen.

I wish Kyle the best of luck and so, I"m sure, would Alex.

Welcome, Valerie and Catie. My son is an MM3, nuke sailor. This is his first real deployment and he enjoyed the stop in Spain. Good luck to both your sailors and keep in touch here.

Calling him a Sea Pup is better than (SU), which means Submarine Unqualified. As soon as he gets his Fish (aka, Dolphins), he'll have an SS after his name in his address. SS means, Submarine Service. Now you can impress him the next time you talk to him, you can ask him "how his quals are going" and " that you know he'll get his Fish soon". He'll be very impressed.

My son said he was suppose to get another Sea Pup when they left Rota. So, it looks like I found the Mom of Alex's new Sea Pup. Welcome Aboard!

I live just north of Pittsburgh.I'm a seamstress. At the moment I'm working on pillowcases for some Marines in the Stan.

If you are planning to go to their homecoming, later this year, then you need to tell Ryan to get you on the list. That way the Ombusman will know to contact you and get you on the list. You need to be on the contact list to get on the base in Groton.

Valerie, Great to have you join us. What is your son's rate. My son Alex is a Nuke ET2. That makes him a reactor operator. He's really enjoying this deployment so far. He loved Rota and esp. Gibraltar. He has one sea pup and he said he might have another one soon, but didn't say when.

Another options for the sailors is to have a Skype account and pay a small price for land minutes. I asked Scott this morning if he bought one of the phones you refer to and he said he was just using Skype. Tell them to ask Scott if they want to know how it works. He is also having a great time sight seeing and trying new food. It was great connecting with him and hearing about his adventures! And he said that his high school Spanish was indeed helping him communicate.

I just talked to Alex again. He just got back from Gibraltar. He had a blast and took over 200 pictures while he was there. I'm so glad he's having such a great time. He even met the monkey's on Gibraltar and had some fish and chips. Tomorrow he's going to Cadiz and I look forward to hearing how he likes that trip.

Alex mentioned that he bought a burn phone to use while he is away. So, I guess that means he plans to call home when he can. I think he actually misses home. LOL
