Since my Steelers are not in the playoffs this year, I can root for Dallas. Its harder to root for the Ravens but I'll get over it (the rivalry) and root for them as well.

They do have sick call. Or something like that. God, I'm getting old. Anyway, if they are sick enough they are sent somewhere. Like if they get the flu. But colds are just not considered serious enough to take them off duty. Remember, this is a sub and if they are at sea, chances are everyone would share the same cold. So you just need to work through it. My husband has been out of the Navy for 28 years and I still can't get him to stay home if he gets a cold.
Alex just said his phone got fried while HE was on the boat. He never said where the phone was at the time. When he's in a rush he tends to talk in short hand. So I usually get it wrong or backwards.

BTW, he is an ET, so who knows what he's been up too.

No it didn't happen today. I don't really know if it was on the boat or at his house, Alex wasn't all that clear. If it was on the boat it was a while ago and not anything serious. Just fried the battery on his phone.

Hi everyone. I got a short message from Alex. Apparently, his phone was fried when they had a power surge on the boat. I am so glad I paid extra for the insurance for that phone. They are so expensive.. But this means that I am getting no news from Alex. So, if any one hears anything, please let me know. He only checks his e-mail once or twice a year, so I can't kick him in the butt for not staying in touch.

Have any of you heard about a snow storm for New England on Thursday or Friday. Those poor guys, they missed the entire spring and summer and now they get to shovel snow.

I grew up in upstate New York. Although it was no Alaska, the cold and snow drove me crazy. So I headed south as soon as I could leave for college. Little did I know that I would marry a guy who accepted a job in Pittsburgh. Its not as bad as New York but its now Hawaii.

Alex made it back to Groton safe and sound. It only took him 9 hours. He didn't hit the traffic we thought he would run into on the Sunday after Christmas.

Mariella, I'm beginning to feel guilty. I live just north of Pittsburgh, PA. We have had a total of 6 inches of snow all winter. When Oklahoma City got 14 inches and you got 25, we got just under 5 inches. In fact, we got rain on Christmas day. I'm sure winter will find us soon enough.
