I heard on Saturday that the officers have a training they have to go to, others will get some stand down time.  We didn't go to WA in July because his hours were so crazy, maybe in Sept. for a weekend.

The rumor was that there would be NO stand down time --BOO-- I emphasize rumor

I feel sad - seems like the information is so sparse --Great news yesterday from my son, he's now qualified in all areas!

Yes, blue crew is on deployment right now, and gold crew takes over in August... I'm so sorry I confused you all..

When my son called a few days ago I could just see him shaking his head at me - like "haven't I told you this before"...

Yeah I think he has met him, because he said they got 3 new guys and 2 were riders on other boats and 1 stayed there.  I really hope he's wrong about some stand down time - for all of our sakes and your son will really need it after being a rider I bet.

ok ladies I feel like an idiot and I have to apologize.. my son is on the blue crew, so I'm sorry if a bunch of what I said was confusing.  I found out he just rotated into the engineering machinery department and now his hours are even crazier and no days off.  He even said they might not get any stand down time when this is over and the other crew takes over--I'm so sad

The good thing is after the deployment they usually get some stand down time.

I hear from my son once a week or so, usually on the weekends.

Shore duty is busy too.  I know he's often on base 10-12 hours a day, some days might be shorter though.
Comment by Renee on July 1, 2011 at 10:37pm
Yes because they still have to go to the boat and do stuff, and they can still do their quals, every third day they are on duty and have to stay on the boat for 24 hours.  I guess the good thing is that if they don't have "duty" on the weekends then they have that time off.
