I don't recall anyone on this discussion thread mentioning this before, but i am on facebook, and my son is, too, and that's the way we have been communicating while he's been away. there have been many times where we happen to be on at the same time, even with the time difference, and we've been able to message back and forth in real time! talk about fun!!! in fact, i got the sweetest message from him this morning...awww...my big navy guy!

@sandy: no, my son didn't get his cake in time even though i ordered it long enough in advance. sometimes that happens. you just never know! he didn't mind, as long as he got a cake and knew his family was thinking about him. :-(

@vansmom: i really want to go to the ship's homecoming, but at this point, i don't think i will, since my son will be flying right up to oregon anyways. but who knows? if alaska comes up with a smashing airfare, i just might!

I am going to go, but I am waiting to hear about the date if that's changed, which I am assuming has now.  I'll let you know what my son says.  We don't want to buy tickets until we know, right!  :)
