Hi my gmail has been going through really well. Heard again tonight and sounds like they are very busy. My son did not get chosen either to go ashore but says he is doing as much as he can on ship to help. God Bless all of the men and women aboard the ship and those that are coming aboard.

hello everybody, my son is actually on the mesa verde...but I was reading and saw the question of phone card. I can say from experience that my son has an ATT phone and had to use it as an emergency last year when the ship went to Panama. I have international on his number and even that is expensive, because of local carriers picking up where ATT dropped off. Originally he was headed to the Gulf of Aiden before this move to Haiti, we had talked about phones and they had been told phone cards were the best way to go, since the cells get expensive also. He has told me numerous times that he is capable of buying the phone card or the time needed for it on board the ship. In the meantime I have taken to collecting cheap ones that I can find that will work in that area and have assembled them into his care package. When he called this morning it was on an unknown number, could have been his cell in a roaming area, but he let me know to use facebook to leave him messages and to email. As a side note I recommend getting a different email address from hotmail if that is what you have. My hotmail address is never delivered to his ship addy and yahoo has a 50-50 chance, I have yet to try my g-mail. He says he sends himself stuff thru gmail all the time. If you get a letter back saying undelivered just keep trying the ships internet and intranet sometimes make it hard for us to communicate with them...hope I didn't go overboard on the info.

Thanks for all your support especially you seasoned moms. I have been lucky to hear from my son 2 days in a row. But know they are busy. Hope the shipmates start to become a wonderful team as it seems there are quite a few new faces including my son. We are all lucky to have children that believe in what they are doing.

Hi Ladies. Its nice to have people to talk to that understand what deployment means for our sailors and us here at home. I was checking out the rackpack (thanks Roxann). It looks like a great thing to use for storage. Just curious if any of you have feedback before I buy one. I am not sure if the USS Nassau will allow it and how long it needs to be. I have emailed my son but they are REALLY busy from what he has said. They will be doing great things in Haiti I am sure. I will keep all of your sailors in my thoughts.
