Yes, has to be an International phone card. I was so confused by the different cards that I went to the recruiters office and asked!

I bought my son an ATT International phone card at Wal-mart and sent him the phone number, card number. There was like a one or two second delays when he would finish saying something before I heard it.

You can actually fill out those custom forms online and print them. https://webapps.usps.com/customsforms/cp72sender_recipient.jsp

Thanks for the tip about grouping like items together (ie: snacks) instead of listing each item separately.

I asked my son if they had a place somewhere on the ship where sailors could place care package items that they really didn't want/need so someone else could use it. He said they didn't have anything like that but that they do swap with others.

Which phone cards do you recommend or are they all about the same? How do they use these (I'm picturing a pay-phone on the ship LOL).

Thanks for all the good information found here!

Thanks for all the tips, gals. The PO man was very helpful and walked me through everything. Told him we are going to be best buds before long!

I normally write snack foods, cookies, nuts, candy, and anything specific that will show on the xray, like can opener or drink bottle when I sent those things and I select gift and a amount usually less than $50. Why do we have to fill out a customs slip for our kids in the Navy?

The PO forms for sending these packages are going to be the death of me!

HI Julie B-
I sent the codes for the phone card to my son on Sunday and he called me on Wednesday mid morning. Hope your calls soon and you have a nice long chat.
