I wish my daughter emailed more, I MAY get a one, rarely 2 liner out of her, but I am a random thought person too, so she gets 10 from me to her one! She likes my emails, but says she has no time to email back, I get calls when there is no line waiting for the phone. She has been in 2 years, jumped in with both feet, never took time off after boot or after a school! Was supposed to go to Japan, but those orders got messed up, so she ended up on OA. I was hoping she would be able to at least get shore duty after this deployment, but looks like I will be an OA supporter for a while! Still haven't picked out a pic and message! Last time, she said 'I already know what I look like! Send me OTHER people!' LOL!

We message through FB and messenger too.  Definitely a lifeline.  I miss not being able to text him.  I agree - it is nice to be able to send and wait.

My sailor has done well with his finances.  I work for a financial firm and he's been investing for a couple years.  He has a really nice portfolio started.  I'm proud of him.  He's never really denied himself anything, but still has quite a bit put away.  I'm glad he was good with his money.  Being in Japan definitely helped that.

He spent his first year at Great Lakes which was awesome because we don't live too far away.  I loved being able to see him regularly.  It was quite a shock when he got his first orders. Can't believe that's all behind us.  How time flies.....

I've only "spoken" with my son 3 times since he left and one of those times was while he was in London waiting for his connecting flights to the ship. We use email and fb messenger most of the time. I'm one of those random thought people and it's nice to be able to just send it to him and wait for him to respond.

I don't know if my son knows what a normal life is. I do know he likes the money he is making and it helps his hobby - his car. Now he can get a housing allowance and he wants to get a house with a garage so he has a place to keep his "baby." It's been locked in a storage unit since he left. I guess it's a wait and see what he decides to do. Hes spent most of his two years in schooling and deployment.

Jesmom6 He's been in for 5+ years.  He'll be out Feb/March.  He's anxious to be done.  There were a few times that he thought he would make a career out of it, but those times are long gone.  He is thankful for the experiences, but is beyond ready to start living a normal life again.

I agree - excited doesn't begin to explain it.  I have countdowns going for all kinds of things.  It's been great being able to talk to him so much though.  He never called from the ship the last 3 deployments.  But they had more stops during those also.  When he was in Japan they would go out for a couple months - back for a couple weeks - then back out.  It was nice to have it broken up.
