Hi all;

The first true deployment is tough, but t does get easier.

Debra, I know exactly  how you feel, but the crew is busy and your sailor will email or call as soon as he can.  The first deployment is tough, I sometimes didn't hear from my sailor for up to three weeks.  I heard from my mine last week, so hang in there.

I have gotten 2 very short emails from my sailor, one phone call that was very hard to understand because the sound was delayed several seconds so both of us were talking over the other at the wrong time! She had told me that she would send a short email everyday, but that didn't happen because she said they are very very busy all the time, so they are really putting them through their paces! She sounded great, though, seemed very happy with these new experiences. Only been in for not quite a year and a half, so I suppose the time spent in port at Norfolk doing day to day chores helped her look forward to what is going on now. She said Mom, THIS is what I joined the Navy FOR! I hope everyone hears from their sailor soon! I want to send stuff to her, but seems like it takes too long to get there! Posting more OA pics, hard to see who is who!

According to the Navy News, the following ships are heading for the area, The George Bush, Truxton and Phillipine Seas.  I hope this information helps.

Hi all,

My son emailed me last Thursday, just a couple of quick lines he did say they that they were very busy.   It made me feel better.  I don't think I've ever gone more than 3 weeks without hearing from him when they go out to sea.

 They stay very busy, according to my son. We only get sporadic messages too. His girlfriend is also on the OA and she posts on Facebook every chance she gets, so when I see her posts, I know he is ok. I'm sure your son is fine and you will hear something soon. :)

Hi Debra! My ex got a message on Facebook last night from my son, wishing him a happy Father's Day. That is the only way we get messages now, either by email or Facebook.

Gen, I put one of them on my page, I tried putting all, but looks like I have to do them seperately. We were very surprised to see her, because she is usually working when anything is going on. I was a little disappointed she had not gotten the chance to meet Oscar Austin's family when they toured the ship. She said she knew they were there, but she was working, so we really hadn't expected to see her. She was thrilled to have gotten a tiny chance to talk to the elderly vets, but they were rock stars with everyone clamoring for their attention. She felt quite honored and humbled as I am sure many felt that day.

Michiganbelle--

How lucky for you, I scanned the photos and didn't see my son at all.  I guess he must had duty at his station.  I would love to see the pic of your daughter.

I was SO thrilled that my sailor was part of the laying of the wreath at the Sailor monument at Utah beach! I screenshotted the pics and cropped them to post on FB, probably put a couple on my page here. She loves history, so I hope she took pics and cant wait to hear the details! I wish they would have been able to find tge survivors of the Cheeki Rafiki
