Brian made it back to Hawaii safely and sounded good. He said it was hard to go back to their apt, but he pushed through. Had dinner with a friend he made at a golf coarse. ;) Meets up with the rest of the crew today.

Welcome Alie, This will be my son's first deployment, too! I'm very glad to have to have other "Dena" moms to share the experience. My son has been in Hawaii since Aug. 23 and loves, loves, loves it.

PeggyB, I'm sending you a friend request and then I will send a hint about Christmas. Also "KayeS" has a great blog on her page about the ins and outs of emailing our sailors during deployments. I think communication is sparse but will happen. TTYL

Myles had the same unease Rhonda about me talking to other moms. He leads me to believe he is the last sailor aboard and so low man on the totem pole. What is the placemat that you mentioned as we are going to have very little time from when he gets to base and they deploy. Could someone private email me the hint of where they will be for Christmas?? My son has said there will be no contact from him for the full deployment. Is this true?? This is his first one.

I emailed the Ombudsman to find out how to go about signing up for the newsletter. The reply stated that the sailor has to fill out a form. Jeff assures me that he has done it but haven't heard anything fro Ombudsman yet. He better not be pulling my leg!!!!!!

Pat, I will be sure to tell Bri. He is a little nervous about being alone. I think he and Jeff will be good mates as Bri has a very kind and compassionate heart as well.
Are any of you making the place mats that were mentioned in the newsletter from the ombudsman?
We also are going to try to be there for the homecoming. It would be fun to meet some of you!

Cyn, Please give my best wishes to Brian. When Jeff called last Sat., I asked him if Brian had returned yet. My son has the kindest heart and he will be a good friend to Brian when he returns. We have your family in our thoughts and prayers. Pat

Hi Ladies. Thank you all for the prayers! Brian is returning to the boat this week. There has been some difficulty with his housing situation. Because of the uniqueness of his situation, they are having a hard time figuring out the widowers status when it comes to housing etc... Please pray that a good solution will be found. On a happier note, my Husband and I are going to the rose parade in honor of our son and daughter in law. I've always wanted to go and this is the year to do it.(it's a long story.) They are sending Brian a commemorative pin.

EllenB, We would like to be there for our son's first homecoming too! From the sound of things, that could be a challenge! But never underestimate the power of a determined mother!!! Our sailor called on Sat. and he seems to really be enjoying Hawaii too (I ask you, what's not like?). Got a hint of where they will be for Christmas!
