Wow, my office got together and put things in boxes for my daughter to send her.  We ended up with 5 boxes.  I think I will send them at different times, so she won't get them all at once.  The are small boxes.  The last 2 boxes I sent her cost me around $25.00 to ship.  I am not sure how much room they have so I will space them out a little.  I believe it takes about 2 weeks to get them - depending on when they get mail delivered.  I am not sure if they only get mail at ports or if it is flown out to them.  Does anyone know?

My daughter said she bought a phone card when she got to port and called us several times over the weekend.  I know she left her cell phone at home and had it turned off while she was away.  It was great hearing from her.

CRf my sons cell phone is put on hold thru his carrier, so we can have his phone turned on at anytime, they sell phones at most ports.. I know my son just bought a international sims card which came with a throw away cell phone for 80.00 which is expensive  80 minutes.. alot of ports that have USO spots have cheapier phones.. hope that helps with your questions

My son plans on taking his cell phone but I know he will get jacked with international charges if he makes calls. I don't know if texting works the same even if he is able to get a signal somewhere. With the new ios6 software update for iphones he can facetime using wi-fi instead of using air time. How often would they be at a port where they could get wi-fi and would they even allow them to use it due to security reasons?

I get regular emails from my daughter.  It is great that we have the internet.  When my brother was in Viet Nam we didn't hear from him for months until he sent us a letter.  Which took forever to get.  We are so fortunate that we can communicate with them so much quicker now.  I am glad you all are hearing from your loved ones too.  Good to hear their voices.

kjkooz to answer your question. If things go similar to last cruse you can expect to hear from your son/daughter about once a month.  E-mail seems to be available to them more often.  Go ahead and e-mail even when you don't hear from him/her.  When they get to internet they will have those messages.
