Wanting to connect families who have loved ones on the USS Philippine Sea

This is my sons first time on the ship and I'm wanting to get as much info as possible. I saw that there is a Facebook Ombudsman page but I can't seem to find it. Any help would be appreciated :)

My son will be deployed on this ship on 1/21/17...  He has never been on a ship, heck or an ocean.  I am more nervous than he is...  Any suggestions for support groups?  How can I stay in touch with the ship when it is underway?

Hi there!

My son has been on this ship since May and has been on many underways. He said they are not bad at all and go by really fast!  It is much easier on them than us :)  There is a facebook page where you can follow the ship called USS Philippine  Sea CG-58 Ombudsman.  They post pics and give updates about what's going on.  Also, make sure he gets his navy email set up before he leaves.  That is the only way that you can talk to him.  They are not able to use their phones. Hope this info helps:)

Thank you.... This helps quite a bit...

What job does your son have? Mine is a GSE (electrical/engineering).

What if he did not get Navy email set up before he left? Would he be able to do it while on ship? Thank you for any info you could pass along.

I would imaging that he could do it anytime.  Your only way to reach him until he does that is by sending a letter (letters get there quicker than packages....that's what I hear anyway) and ask him to set up his email so that you guys can communicate since they can't use their phones.  Anyone on the ship should be able to help him with that.  After he gets it set up, he can email his ombudsman to add you guys to the Facebook ship page and you will have the ombudsman's info:)

My son is on ship also, his first time. He is surface rescue swimmer

Your son will have to email the Ombudsman and ask her to add you to the ship page so that you can see everything. The Captain has sent a couple of messages that she has posted and they are all doing great!
