sbcalvert unfortunately we can't give you any information on the boat until your fiance reports to the command. As for housing your fiance has to do all the paperwork to get things started but not sure how things work unless you guys are married.. Sorry wish I could be more help. Once your fiance reports to the comman and our ombudsman has paper work on you then I can give you more information...

Hello everyone!

I am new to this group and relatively new to the Navy, so I am trying to find out as much information as possible. My fiancé currently is finishing supply school in Newport and I live in Texas, and he just got assigned to the USS Pittsburg and is about to start Sub School in Groton in January. We are looking for an apartment/home to move into after we are married in June, but have no clue where to start. Do you guys have an opinion of housing up there? Also, do you guys know how to go about getting a general timeframe of information regarding the length of time the ship will be in dry-docked? :)

Thanks Cheri! We just need some ideas. We are trying to get everyone involved and not just focus on "family" or "wives" only.

It will be on the navy base!! They were building the dry dock during homecoming actually. It looked like a big cement box! :)

99% of them will stay with the boat. If there if another boat in dier need of someone they may volunteer to "ride" with a boat for a while but will return to the Pittsburgh until they transfer to shore duty. They still stand their watches and do normal work, the boat will just be up in the air!! Perfect opportunity to visit more often!! :)

Its only for 5 days ha ha ha!!  Then yes, Dry Dock for at least 10 months but they are allocating I think 18 months in case everything doesnt go as perfectly as they hoped!! :)
