Loving a Sailor isn't much fun
but its worth the price when the battle is won.
And remember he's thinking of you every day,
he's sad and he's lonely while so far away.
So love him and miss him and hold your head high,
Be strong and have faith, wipe that tear from your eye.
Your man's a seafarer, like that old ancient trader,
It's a high price you pay for loving a Sailor!

I would love to stay at the Navy Lodge but I thought that my son had to be there to sign us in. We have stayed at the Navy Lodge in San Diego, on North Island and on Coronado and every time I've checked in I've had him with me so I'm not sure how we would be able to stay there this time.

I will mention it to him about putting in for the package once he gets a chance to call us. This Navy stuff is all new to me so all of your information has helped so much. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

OH I will be at the pier at like 6 in the morning just pacing waiting for the ship to pull in. Are you planning on staying at the navy lodge when you are here?  As long as he puts in his package after 18 months of being on board he should get accepted to corps school.

He said he can't wait to get back from deployment so that he can try to get to A school to become an HM. So far he loves what he's been doing with your husband. I can't wait to meet you both in person when their ship gets back into port.

I hate to admit that my husband knows everything considering we are the same rate but he is great at what he does and knows so much.  if your son does convert to HM he will be way head of his class.

Hi Tina_sailor87,

Thanks for the information about the USS Rentz getting underway. (and letting me know that my son did ok) I am also hoping that their deployment gets cut short. You have no idea how relieved I am that your husband is showing my son "the ropes" My son told me again how awesome your husband is and that he knows everything.

Hi Steph - That show is awesome, I found it by mistake not too long after my son PIR'd from boot camp. I also appreciate the info regarding Southwest, it's good to know.

Well nice to meet all of you.  Something that has been very interesting for me is watching the documentary CARRIER.  I really recommend all of you to check it out if you want to see what life is like on a deployment.  If you just google it you can watch full episodes.  Its a PBS documentary based the USS Nimitz when they took their 6 month deployment.  Its a coincidence because the Nimitz  left May 8th and returned November 9th. Also if you are worried about booking flights and changing dates and getting charged i would recommend Southwest because while my husband was away at A school in Illinois I flew out roughly every 3 months and they were great about changing flight dates without being charged.

Thanks guys for the update. I too was unable to be there when the guys left. We are from Alabama and the last minute flight prices were ridiculous!  I plan on attending the homecoming, so if and when anyone get any details please post. Thestepher20, my son don't have much info for me either and now that I know someone else has this problem also, I don't feel so bad. ;-)  He's been on the Rentz since 08/2010 and I think he's still trying to adjust. I will keep you all in my prayers as we wait for our sailors safe return.

Hi babrams

Abrams got underway alright they all did it was a really sad day i dont think i have ever seen so many grown man cry even when I deployed i didnt see that.  So just so everyone knows the ships internet goes down a lot so if they dont email you for a couple of days that is why.  I will try and keep you posted on when they are coming back home I pray and hope that the deployment gets cut short but we will see.  I hope all is well

Hi Thestepher20 - Welcome to the group. I live in KY so I couldn't make it for the underway goodbye. My son has only been on the ship for about 8 mos. and he's finally getting adjusted. I would love to live in CA, it's so beautiful. I'm planning on being there for the Homecoming as long as I get the information about it soon enough to make flight and hotel reservations. My son doesn't always have a lot of info for me.

Have a good Monday.

Hello, I am a Navy wife.  My husband has been in a little over a year and he is a GSE3.  We are both from California living in the LA area so we got really lucky that he was stationed in San Diego.  It was a great relief because I am currently finishing up my BFA and moving would have been tough.  We have a home in the LA area so he comes home on the weekends and I make the 2 hour trip usually 2-3 times a week.  I was there on the pier as we waived them off goodbye and it was very emotional.  I'm glad to join a navy group and glad that the Rentz one was created.
